Auburn AD Jay Jacobs Think A Move To The SEC East Makes Sense
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
A few days ago we heard former Auburn coach Pat Dye say he thinks the school should move to the SEC East. Auburn AD Jay Jacobs doesn't disagree. Per AL.com...
quote:

“It makes sense,” Jacobs said on WNSP-FM 105.5. “If we ever had the opportunity to geographically realign, it makes sense. It really makes sense for Missouri, because of the travel or other things like that.”

“Are we willing to give up the traditional rivalries?,” Jacobs said. “When you look around the nation at conferences that have done realignment, they’ve lost some of those rivalries. Has that helped them or hurt them? I don’t really know. What it would take to do that was for us to say ‘We’re not going to play the same traditional rivalries that we have in the past. We’re going to go to the East.’ Or does that matter? Do you look at a different way of scheduling altogether? We’re certainly open to it.

“I would want to preserve the Auburn-Alabama rivalry, however we could do that. … The Auburn-Alabama game right now, it just means too much to too many people to give that up. I think there are other ways that we could possibly change without having to give that rivalry up.”
What do you think?

Auburn is running from anybody, especially not bama. lets not forget auburn beat bama 6 in a row less than 10 years ago and bama hasn't broke of a streak of 4 yet. moving to the east just makes sense, hell auburn is located on the Eastern side of Alabama for godsake. Missouri is definitely more west in location than auburn is west so it makes since. Act like you been watching freaking football before the saban era. sheesh.

Get with Saban and tell him you will help push for a 9 game SEC schedule if he will help you go to the East. That way rivalries can be preserved and you aren't being perceived as trying to run away from stiffer competition. Auburn hates Saban so much that it won't happen, but they would be smart to try it.

If anything, Auburn would get the Florida and Tennessee rivalries back with a move to the East. Those are longer and probably more important rivalries to them than the series with LSU. Auburn and LSU played infrequently until expansion in 1992. It's been a good series, and I'd hate to see LSU lose the Auburn series. But for Auburn fans, a move to the East would be good.

How about moving Auburn, Missouri, and Vandy to a new division? We could call it the ACC.

These pussies bring this up ever year. They aren't going anywhere unless Daddy says they can.

If Auburn were to leave, that should end the Iron Bowl. Not worth Bama changing anything to accommodate AU and their constant bitching.

As an LSU fan, I don't want to run from anybody. Bama is tough. We beat them 5 in a row, they beat us 6. Auburn is going through a coaching drought now. We just got out of one. They will be competitive again. The angry dwarf will not coach forever.

The real change needs to take place with the SEC championship game. It makes no sense when Alabama plays a lesser team than one in the West. Probably best to go to a seed format. Tenn and Fla had a run years ago where both were the best in the SEC, but both were in the same division. Why would the SEC continue with a system that forfeits their chance to have the best and most attractive match-ups?

Shouldn't even be a seeding system or sec championship. Should just add another sec game for all the teams and take a rent a win off the schedule.

Nothing he said is incorrect and I said this on Facebook when some Alabama fan called Dye dumb for this same comment. Geographically it absolutely makes sense if they realign. Auburn has zero issues holding their rivalries if this happens, Bama is the permanent cross-rival and UGA is divisional rival. Alabama is the one who has shite to work out. the truth is, about the Iron Bowl, it would probably be best to take a few year break from it. The rivalry is getting really nasty.

So Bama has to work shite out just to accommodate Auburn? Why does Bama have to work anything out?

Because bama keeps killing things.
