10828Nick Saban Says Teams Passing On Tua Will Regret It Like He Regrets Passing On Drew Brees
© John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
Heading into this week's NFL Draft ,Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa is a risk. After failing multiple physicals, his health is a questions mark teams may not want to take a chance on. According to his head coach Nick Saban, teams passing on him may regret it like he regrets passing on Drew Brees in 2006 when he was with the Dolphins...
quote:

“We failed Drew Brees on the physical,” Saban told Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal. “That’s why he’s not Miami’s quarterback. I don’t think any of the questions with Tua have to do with his ability to throw the ball and be effective.”

Is Tua worth the risk?

Tua will be fine as long as he has an elite o-line and receivers to prop him up. And if they can’t then I’m sure a pair of crutches can.

Why does he regret passing on Brees? I thought he left the NFL after only 2 years because he wasn't happy in the NFL. Does he mean that he would have stayed in Miami if he wouldn't have been facing imminent failure in the NFL?

The Dolphins still haven't recovered from Nick Saban. How can you be that good in college and that horrible in the NFL?

Passed on Brees and leaned on Ricky Williams so much that he retired to go live in a tent in Australia. I don’t care though. I will always respect what Saban did at LSU. He helped get LSU back to a respectable level so much so that Les Miles won a National Championship. Have you ever heard any of his unique statements. People make fun of Coach O and that’s ok I guess but Les makes O sound like a Harvard grad.

Why would anybody care what saban thinks? Not like he is an expert on NFL quarterback talent.

I'd say there is a 0% chance he doesn't get taken in round 1. very unlikely he gets past Belichick and no way he gets past Belichick and Payton. And highly unlikely he falls out of the top 15 IMO. Probably closer to 5 than 15.

The Pats have the #23 pick in the 1st round so Belichick would have to trade up to get Tua if you're right and Tua goes in the first 15. OTOH, of the 12 QB's Belichick has drafted w/ the Pats, he's never used a 1st round pick. The highest was Garoppolo at round 2/#64. Seems unlikely he'd trade up to pick a franchise QB w/ known injury problems in college.

i don't see many teams passing so it's moot

The O/U for number of seasons Tua will start, anywhere, ever, in the league without missing multiple games with injury is 0.5.

He doesn’t regret passing on Brees. C’mon man! He probably won’t be at Bama. I do like the respect he is paying though. Who dat!

Considering he’d probably take one SuperBowl over 5 championships at Bama I say your wrong.
