re: Who do you think was one of the best football players Not to win the Heisman?
Posted by bigdawg62 on 9/17/21 at 6:42 am
The best player to be robbed of a Heisman is Jim Brown. In 1956, the Heisman was given to Paul Hourning of ND on a losing team. Johnny Majors was snubbed at Tennessee but Brown was by far the best player.

Acme for chargrilled oysters is a great answer. Also around the corner is Mr. B’s for awesome barbecue shrimp (shrimp in awesome brown butter sauce not grilled). Can’t go wrong at Mandina’s up Canal St. from the quarter. Couchon in the CBD/warehouse district is also great. Enjoy Nola!

Not last year. Right gave play calling to Bobo who left after the 2014 season. In 2015, that turd of an offense was Richt, especially in the UF game.

I'm confused. last year it was Mark Richt's fault and this year it is Chaney's?
The difference is that Richt was/is an offensive coach, and the buck stopped with him on all issues offensive (pun intended). Kirby is a defensive coach, and his OC will be left to handle the offensive in most instances. Therefore, Richt's turd offensive is to blame for last year, and the overall lack of offensive development this year lies with Cheney.

I'm not impressed. However, the result today is better than Mark Richt did with his own players last year. The gimmick of playing Bauta/Ramsey resulted in 4 INTs and 3 points, more interceptions than points. That game was a joke on the offensive side of the ball, and the defense couldn't stop the run when only 7 passes were thrown by UF.
MY THOUGHTS:
This Georgia offense lacks any true outside threat, i.e safeties and corners can sit on run plays and short passes. Safeties step into the box without a concern of being burned.
The interior offensive line is a joke, i.e. noseguards/tackles don't have to stunt/other to defeat the blocks and create penetration. Once interior defensive linemen can create this type of penetration without creating a hole by stunting/shooting a gap, there are fewer cutback lanes for the RBs. Additionally, the fastest way to gain yards on the ground is through the middle, which is not possible with big DLs in the backfield. Moreover, the fastest way to defeat any play is in the middle, as it results in pocket collapsing and RBs having to cut and not gain speed toward the line of scrimmage. The tackle play is bad too! I dare any offensive mind in the country to take this line and play competitive offense in the SEC.
I have one hope, and that is Eason survives this season in good health without any head issues (yipes). If he does, then maybe some of the young linemen can become good tackles or guards. I believe that this team will need to recruit several tackles, as Madden and Cleveland, who both have size, likely lack the quickness to be tackles in the SEC.
As for Cheney, I would like to see less tight formations. This line appears to do a better job of pass blocking when there are three and four receiver sets. Cheney should review the tape of the Pats, who have done a better job of utilizing the TEs by breaking them out wide and creating size mismatches on running downs. Nauta/Blaze can create the types of LB/TE matchups that are winners for an offense.
I do realize that the strength of this team is the defense and therefore, the play calling has been conservative to prevent mistakes and keep the team in the game. I'm hopeful that Kirby's teams do not become a repeat of Muschamp at UF. The defense will be good, and it will continue to improve. Having said that, D alone will not get it done. It's everyone's first season, but a lot more talent will be needed to win in this league with a vanilla offense. LSU had a great deal of talent and didn't do a darn thing without a better OC. Kirby should look to his boss and hire an OC with more imagination, but i don't think that is likely after only one season.
I hope/think there will be wins against Tech and UK. AU will be tough, but a good home crowd might be enough to get the Dawgs over the hump.

Good Andy Staples Article re: Richt and a coaching search

This is one of the better articles regarding the difficult job McGarity will have in attracting the right coach to blow the lid off of the program.
LINK
For the tl;dr crowd: McGarity should only move on from the Richt Era if he has a sure-fire top tier candidate that he is certain will come to Athens.

The best thing you can buy is not a Scotch but a Japanese whisky called Hibiki 12. It used to be $55-60 a bottle. FYI- the Japanese whisky industry is modeled on scotch and has many similar tasting notes. Take the remainder of your cash and buy a cheap single malt like Glenfiddich 12. You can then enjoy and compare the two spirits.
For a single bottle near the price point: Dalmore has a nice Cigar Malt, and if you like high strength booze, Aberlour's A Bunadh is a non-chill filtered cask strength spirit.

re: Vandy confident it can stop Gurley

I agree that Vandy's defensive play will stop Gurley. They will stop him the exact same way he was stopped against Troy. Mike Bobo will know the game is in hand after six carries/one drive, and he will put Gurley on the bench to save him for a better team.

Has anyone bought the Costco brand 18 y/o single malt scotch? It's cheap approximately $37, but I didn't see a need to buy it, if the board thought it was crap.

I'm trying a new everyday scotch called Monkey Shoulder. It's pretty darn good. Has anyone else tried it?
re: Offseason Spin-Off: Worst Georgia games you have ever attended

The worst for me was the 1993 UF timeout game. Imagine, if you can, the old Gator Bowl right before they tore that piece of junk down. The heavens opened up and rain was running down the stadium like whitewater rapids. The first half/quarter is a monsoon, and everyone in the place is soaked to the bone. However, a Ray Goof team with Eric Zeier at the helm is fighting tooth and nail with the might Gaytors. Then as time is running out a Touchdown, My God a Touchdown! This horrible day was worth it, but no, a "timeout" was called before the play. To make matters worse, the Dawgs got to lose the game twice, as Zeier and company, lost the game on an incomplete pass that was called interference. They were given an un-timed play to finish the game that was also incomplete. Heartbreaking to watch that ending in that weather.
Honorable mentions:
2000 Termites v. UGA in Sanford Stadium. A cold rainy butt kicking by GT at home.
2008 UF v. UGA: I refused to go back to Jacksonville for several years after that one.
1999 UGA v. Termites at Bobby Dodd. Prior to renovating Bobby Dodd, UGA's fans were in a section that looked at the bleachers behind the end zone. You had to turn to your right to see anything. Jasper Sanks "fumbled" at the 1" line and Tech won in OT, on as second field goal attempted, after Georgia blocked the first attempt.
97 AU v. UGA- Cold as heck and the Dawgs played like Dawg shart!!!

1) 1997 UGA v. UF- Robert Edwards was unfricking stoppable! It was wonderful to watch in light of the recent butt kickings from the Gaytors, especially the half a hundred at Sanford.
2) 2002 UGA v. UA- The "Man Enough" game. It was awesome to beat Bama for the first time ever in Tuscaloosa.
3) 2012 UGA v. UF - Whole family went to the game, and we were throwing down! It was awesome!

The new UGA jerseys appear to have smaller numbers on the front with larger on the back, but that's just my opinion.

Actually, it was dumb arse UGA fans that ruined tailgating on North Campus. That place looked like the county dump after a game. Disgusting behavior by disgusting fans
Obvious troll gump is obvious, but I’m going to take the bait, as Michael Adams is horrible.
Actually, it was Michael Adams’, who is UGA’s president and should be in charge of all administrative duties, complete failure to prepare the campus for a night game that caused the majority of the issues. While most schools attempt to provide sufficient trash cans/services and bathrooms, Adams, in what I assume was another attempt to show his disdain for football, determined that a few extra cans that were never picked up during a day of tailgating would be sufficient. Further, the fifteen port-a-potties provided were a joke with 15,000 to 20,000 fans in the area. The condition of campus was made worse by the bums that rifled through the trash during the game, as no attempts were made by the administration to collect trash during the day. If Adams and his administration had taken the time to consider the implications of a 7:30 kick between top 5 teams, as opposed to a typical 3:30 or 1:00 kick, then the situation in large part could and would have been avoided.
