Bevo has reached their destination at long last

UC Santa Barbara has emerged to help the west a bit. Seven bids over 12 years with a CWS trip in 2016.

Teams like ECU and UCSB don’t deserve to host. I’m sorry I understand they’re trying to “grow the game” but middle of the pack SEC teams are more deserving than those two.
Why did UCSB not deserve to host? Top-15 RPI. A perfect regular season at home. Champion of a traditionally multibid league. Won 25 of our last 27 games entering the NCAAs. I'd say it was well earned on the field - and off.
In December local government agencies forced us to start with 10 straight road games, six which were originally home contests. And our head coach's father passed away midseason while in attendance of our midweek game vs UNLV.
No way the NCAA was going to deny us the right to host.

In (UC Santa Barbara), For now.
Over the past decade Andrew Checketts has turned down USC (Trojans) twice and Tulane. Supposedly both Oregon schools too.
We'll see if he gets a call

Ducks hand UCSB their first home loss of 2024.

Even though UCSB scored 9 runs, it felt like we left too many on base. And sloppy fielding is concerning; three errors led to five unearned Fresno runs. Have to clean it up if we're to advance out of our regional.
Crowd was great.

GCU has come a long ways in a short time since they became a Division 1 program.

Temporary bleachers were added to reach the minimum capacity required to host.

think the Pac-12 is down this year, and feel good about you guys handling business. Always fun to have teams from other parts of the country come to Olsen, as it is a bit of a circus atmosphere compared to what most non-SEC teams are used to.
We've got to take care of business, too. ULL is no slouch, and a rival like Texas is likely to play their best (as our softball team did at their super regional this week).
It was a sloppy, rocky start to regionals with three errors. But UCSB got it done. 9-6 win over Fresno State, now we get Oregon in the 1-0 game.

Never going to happen.
if you offer a mens only sport, you have to offer womens only sports that equal the scholarship numbers (assuming your student body is 50-50... UGA in fact has to offer MORE female scholarships since we're more like 55% female to 45% male with our student body).
Title 9 is pretty clear cut. You have two options.
1 - Offer mens and womens scholarships at an equal percentage to your student body's male/female ratio.
2 - Offer full scholarship numbers for all sports that your student body has an interest in competing in (This is basically just Stanford, who is so rich they just offer full scholarship numbers for EVERY scholarship sport).
As long as there's a minimum requirememt of six or seven men's sports, eventually there will come a time for some schools where the only cuts that can be made are on the women's side. The most vulnerable are at the G5 level and below.
Example, out on the west coast San Diego State had to cut women's rowing in 2021 (44 roster spots) because they were proportionally out of Title IX compliance. Too many women's athletes vis a vis the rest of the overall student population.
UTEP only has five men's teams. There's nothing left to cut.

Zero complaints from me. Texas as a 3 and ULL as a 2 is about right. Only thing I don't like about having Texas at the regional is their fans. I'm going to have a real dilemma Friday night: sell my tickets, or sit in the middle of a bunch of lowlifes trying to sit behind the Texas dugout?
Love the pairing with UCSB for the super.
Really love the fact that, if we make it to Omaha, we won't see Hagen Smith in game one.
Now, we've just got to go out and start hitting the ball like we were doing up to the beginning of May
I like the confidence that you expect my UCSB Gauchos to advance to the supers. I'm anxious because (A) it's baseball, and (B) it's not often you put a 25-0 record at home on the line in the NCAA Tournament. We can't afford an 0-2 record after going through so many hoops so we could host in the first place.

I hate it. Hosting a regional for the first time on campus, only to see another WCC, another MWC team and Oregon who we took 2 of 3 from in Eugene earlier this year. That's our ooc schedule practically every year.

I hate our regional (UCSB). Was hoping Florida or MSU was sent our way. Instead we get a typical west coast bracket with Fresno, Oregon and San Diego.

Quad 1 win totals for NCAA baseball regional hosts:
Mississippi State (not hosting)- 16
One great feather in the cap, also noteworthy that all but one of those wins came in SEC play. Here's a possible counter to it. Too many Quad 4 losses, all at home.
Mississippi State - 5. Maybe dropping two of them to Austin Peay cost ya.
Compared to say, my UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (hosting) - 1. The bottom third of the Big West was riddled with land mines and we avoided them all.
Road record MSU 8-9 (only two true road games ooc), UCSB 16-12 (13 true road games ooc, 10 in a row to start the season)
As an aside,
MSU nonconference RPI 52, SOS 132
UCSB nonconference RPI 37, SOS 127
Obviously you can't control your league schedule, and the SEC is much stronger top to bottom than the Big West. But you do have some control over who you play ooc - and where
