Is this legit?
Great. This is like falling for the NO3 account.

He’s not going back to Ole Miss. Call would have been made already. He’s burned his bridge in Oxford.
90% chance he’s LSU’s next HC. 10% chance some funny business is going on and he goes to Florida, or UT opens up and he goes there or some garbage.

Sam Pittman as an OL Coach? Yes. Sure he’s an old retread HC. He’s one of the best O-line coaches in the business. Joker Phillips may be a weak call. I can agree with most of your reasoning though.

My list is fairly realistic outside of 2-3 names.
Good analysis.
Golding likely remains in Oxford.
I’d imagine Lane will bring more of his guys than I mentioned, but I don’t believe he will bring 90% of his Ole Miss staff with him.

I don’t prefer him as the RB coach. RB’s have shown little to no progression, and in some cases regression under him.
Sounds like he will be retained though. I’d be good with Wilson taking on Recruiting Coordinator role, and going in a different direction on RB’s coach, but we will have to see.

Nice analysis. Would you prefer Sean Mcvay as OC, and 2005 Bill Belichick as the DC?

I’m good with Peoples getting retained. Just don’t know how that looks. I can see a Kiffin O reunion. If O comes on, and Peoples stays, Kyle Williams is likely out the door.

I would be okay with that. 2 Defensive Line coaches, and give O title of Recruiting coordinator, along with Wilson possibly.

What is your dream coaching staff, within reason, for LSU and Lane? If he’s the next HC.
I’d like to think Frank Wilson, and Corey Raymond are locks to be on the next staff, no matter what. Louisiana and recruiting are locked down with them two. Keeping Baker would be solid. Ed O as DL coach would be cinema.
HC: Lane Kiffin
OC/QB’s: Charlie Weis Jr.
RB’s/RC: Frank Wilson
WR’s: Joker Phillips
OL: Sam Pittman
DC/LB’s: Blake Baker
DL/RC: Ed Orgeron
CB’s: Corey Raymond
Safeties: Jake Olsen
ST: Greg McMahon
Strength and Conditioning: Tommy Moffitt
GM: Austin Thomas
Feels like Wilson, Raymond, Baker, and Thomas are pretty much guaranteed. Very plausible to say Orgeron could return, and Weis would follow Lane. I can see this staff being able to convince Moffitt on a return. Jake Olsen has been a good coach, would like to retain him as well. LSU’s special teams were lock down with McMahon, and he’s only been out of the game for 1 season.
The left field candidates of Pittman and Joker Phillips are the only ones that may be a pipe dream.
This staff here would be elite. What are some of y’all’s possible staff’s, or wants on the next staff?

LSU needs to give him the ultimatum. If you want in great, if you drag us along, good riddance. I’d take Kiffin for sure. I’d also be 100% good with Dillingham or Brent Key too. Can’t lose out on those guys because Kiffin can’t make up his mind.
re: If Lane is at LSU after all this hype...what will 3-5 years down the road look like?
Posted by TigerLifer18 on 11/21/25 at 2:20 pm to Muahahaha
I think LSU would be Kiffin’s destination spot, and he will have all the resources, and opportunities to cement his legacy. With the reported salary, NIL support, resources, recruiting ground, he essentially has to win a Title to justify it all.
If all goes well, Kiffin coaches at LSU for 15-20 years, and wins 2-3 Titles. He will win a lot of games, I even think he will win a Championship. The question will be can he win multiple, and solidify himself as one of the greats. LSU’s highs are as good as anyone’s but not as consistent as Bama, Ohio St, Georgia. If he can keep LSU consistent on a year to year basis, that will be the key.

Kewan Lacey should be priority #1. I don’t think Chambliss has eligibility left. But if he can get another year from the NCAA, he’s LSU’s starting QB next season.

Bloomington in the Top 10? Did hell freeze ever? Been there plenty of times. Beautiful city, and campus, and good people. That’s hard for me to believe.
re: Florida Fans, do you trust a Kliff Kingsbury hire?

You are right, but we aren’t talking top 20 defenses. We are talking the man couldn’t field anything at all with substance. These were consistently the worst defenses in CFB.
Florida Fans, do you trust a Kliff Kingsbury hire?
Posted by TigerLifer18 on 11/19/25 at 2:32 pm
I have no doubt Kingsbury would get the Florida offense humming, if he is the next hire for y’all. He’s an offensive genius, that is very much true. But the man coached 6 seasons at Texas Tech and posted a 35-40 overall record in his 6 seasons there. Hell, he had Patrick Mahomes for half his Texas Tech tenure. He ended up failing at Arizona, but I won’t hold that much against him, as we have seen certain guys fail at one level. Saban in the NFL, Belichick in CFB. I have a lot of Texas Tech buddies who couldn’t stand Kingsbury during his Texas Tech tenure, and this is why. Look at these team defensive numbers under Kingsbury. This is pretty alarming stuff to say the least.
Kliff Kingsbury Team defensive ranks at Texas Tech:
2013 88th/125th
2014 126th/128th
2015 125th/128th
2016 128th/128th
2017 100th/128th
2018 86th/128th
He never fielded a defense in the Top 85 in 6 full seasons. 3 of these seasons, these defenses were pretty much the worst in CFB. This is a pretty good sample size to get a clear picture as well.

If I’m Arkansas, I’m jumping on Gruden. I’d love Gruden in the SEC. Would be a good hire for Arkansas. Publicity, sound bites, and eyes on the program alone would be worth it for y’all. Gruden could get Arky going on 8-4 seasons.
re: Dave Aranda landing spot
Posted by TigerLifer18 on 11/18/25 at 5:33 pm to Rouxdee
I would welcome back Dave with open arms as our next DC.
If it’s Kiffin we can assume Golding will be the DC.
If it’s Dillingham, gotta assume Baker and guys like Aranda would be candidates.
Baker is a solid DC, but still can’t stop a mobile QB. I’d prefer Aranda.

End of the day coaching searches are a crapshoot and roll of the dice. There are too many external factors involved for a computer to come up with a surefire coach. Kelly’s resume when LSU hired him was about as good as it got. He didn’t even last 4 full seasons here at LSU.

Definitely true. I just see a lot of differences between Kelly and Freeman.

Dude it’s everybody’s opinion about their own hot board. You used a shitty comparison in regards to Kelly as your argument. I then nullified your argument and you hit me with a “Freeman is NOT coming here”
You gotta counter better than that. You’re making no sense.
I never even said Freeman WAS coming here. Just said your comparison to Kelly is short sighted. You have no argument against that.
