This player wasn't solely the reason for the win, but played an enormous role on and off the field - Sam “Bam” Cunningham in the 1970 Alabama - Southern Cal game, won by Southern Cal, 42-21....

Terrible loss. I would add the 1973 Sugar Bowl loss to Notre Dame, 24-23, as well. At least Alabama still had a split title in 1973, the 1975 Orange Bowl loss prevented then from winning the title for the 1974 season....
