Born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and my family still lives there. Saints fan all my life as they are the local team for the area. As are the Braves, as their market is pretty much the entire Southeast.

As for the Hawks, ATL UTD, UGA, my wife is from Atlanta, her family has had season tickets since the 80s at UGA. Father-in-law has season tickets to the Hawks, never was a basketball person until he took me. Same with ATL UTD.

So yeah, I get the Saints-Falcons rivalry and talk shite with the best of them, but it ain't bigger than that for me. I love Atlanta, and I think it's an amazing place to live. I love New Orleans, too, but I wouldn't live there. You're right about the New Orleans and below sea level stuff. Personally I don't get it.

New Orleans also has some pretty shitty areas/things (as does Atlanta). If the levees weren't such shite, New Orleans wouldn't have had near the damage it did. But where I was living did, so natural disaster jokes where people died and lost their homes is pretty low.
It’s okay to feel mad sometimes.
If they were to ever do one, what would you want? Personally, I would hope for something like this:

**shameless plug for my jersey edit concept**

Kirby Era collar/block numbers with drop shadow.

I know the TV numbers aren't on the sleeves like the original. My initial thought process was to pay homage to the old uniform and not be an exact replica, so when I saw the big negative space (and truthfully, not a good view of the sleeve-caps) I thought the shoulders were a good middle ground.

What about y'all?

Atlanta United Opinion

Posted by HuntTheJones on 3/10/19 at 8:13 pm
Have to say it, may get flamed for it, but today against Cincinnati was almost unwatchable other than my vested interest in the team itself. And really, the other games have been the same. Sure the results have sucked, too, but I’m talking about style of play and general persona of the play I see in-game.

I believe this style of play is what drives the casual fan away from soccer, and opposite of what the 5 Stripes were and what made them so popular. It’s a dangerous road to continue down, especially with all of the early success that the team has had in the first two years.

Again, I’m not a die hard soccer guy, but Atlanta United made me a fan of soccer because it was exciting and pushed the envelope of every other match I’d seen.

It may be too early to be so pessimistic, but as that casual soccer fan made by the brand & this city, I’m not optimistic of what I’ve seen.

Like I said, it’s my opinion, but I feel like it is echoed and wanted to see. What say you?
I agree. Let’s stop complaining about it because it’s not going to change as long as the playoff system is in place.

Coaches already look at the extra practice as prep for next year, why not the game, too? That’s just the new reality of today’s game.

It’s playoff or bust, so why risk your financial future on an essentially meaningless game (a championship is off the table)?

I can’t say I would with millions on the line. Do I necessarily like it? As a fan, no. But when you look at it from a business standpoint, and that is what college football has become, it makes perfect sense. It just is what it is.

I’m a Saints fan dawg. Love the gif.
You’re right, it doesn’t matter since we aren’t in. But I just think it’s telling of the thought process and decision making by the committee. It’s gonna be alright man, sun did come up today.

Here’s my thing with the committee. I said before I didn’t think Georgia would/should be in after having the opportunity to beat Alabama when they should have and squandering it. But after seeing the rankings and hearing the why, here’s my issue.

They claim that the difference between OU and UGA came with the conference championship (though we’ve seen them put Alabama in without a conference or division championship just last year) and that was the deciding factor in a close decision, one in which they admitted was of the opinion that Georgia was the better team. So with the conference title being the decider, why was Georgia not also behind Ohio State with a better record and conference title? Saying Georgia is above them (with a conference title) but not Oklahoma (with a conference title) but a better team than both is hypocrisy. It’s either the deciding factor in the way you use it or it’s not. If that’s your criteria, Georgia by non-conference title and record should be 6 (and I’m a Georgia fan). All this showed was the committee knew who should be in based on who’s best, but couldn’t pull the trigger because they didn’t have the stones to face the backlash and clamors for expansion that would come from getting the “best” four in.

Do I think they got it right, yes and no. Based simply on Georgia’s lack of finishing and losses, OU is in based on the criteria the committee says they rank on (which is not necessarily the best four as we see). But putting Georgia in-between is self destructive of that very reasoning and shows that they wanted to do what was right, but status-quo (and possibly the backlash faced last year) is the reason they didn’t.

Thoughts?

Beating Bama is Tough

Especially when you can’t finish them off. In the last two games between them, there have been 290 total plays run in Alabama vs. Georgia.

Alabama only had the lead for 9 of them and won both games. That stat is the epitome of Georgia being the better team and blowing it.

I mean really, it’s hard to be more poised to win than that, yet it fatefully slips away. What’s the answer?
Cam Jordan is one of the best, if not the best, defensive lineman in the National Football League. He single handedly took the game and gave it to Drew and the offense with a sack/fumble in what seemed like an impossible situation with the Cowboys driving late for what would have been a game clinching score or first down. He made up his mind to make that play, and there was absolutely nothing the tackle could do to stop him.
I really didn’t even have that unit cross my mind. They’ve always been so bad there I guess I just didn’t even register to think of it, because they haven’t needed it.
The reality is that Alabama should win the game. I wouldn't be surprised if they run away with it at the end. They are elite in every position group on the field. But we are not too far behind. At worst, our young team gets beat by multiple scores by what most will claim is the best team Alabama has ever fielded, and one of the best in the history of the game, but I don't anticipate it.

There is a reason we play the game. Yes, Alabama has looked superb all year. Yes, they have the advantage across each matchup. Yes, I do think it will take our perfect performance to beat them, with a few breaks as well. But A LOT crazier things have happened in this game than what this upset would be. Kirby will have them not just ready to play, but ready to play Alabama and beat them. The game plan will be there. The motivation will be there. The OT loss in the title game last winter is still sour. Revenge is proven to be a highly effective motivator when managed correctly. Not to mention the fact that an SEC Championship and playoff spot are on the line. If we are there in the 4th Quarter, look out. I like our O-Line, and I like Fromm in a second go-round.

I can't quite place it, and not that it holds any weight (obviously), but I have a great feeling about this game. Conversely, I can honestly say I had the same type of feeling for the LSU game going in, but in the opposite direction, and it proved true. I think we shock the world.

I guess my years of Saints-dom have conditioned me to always expect the worst when the stage is big or we are “supposed” to do something good.

Personally I hope we drub the Falcons all the way back to Flowery Branch, but I can’t bank on anything with the Saints.
I don't believe it's as high as a Braves or Falcons title, but I every bit think it's on par with a Hawks one. Not to mention, the ceiling is so high with the support in the city for the team. I've seen nothing like it, though my sports culture doesn't really venture outside of Metro Atlanta or the Mississippi Coast. I think the sky is really the limit for this team, especially if they keep winning. The games are SUPER HYPE. I wasn't even a soccer fan at all until Atlanta United. I couldn't even sit through 10 minutes of a game on TV prior. Now I can not only watch the whole thing, but genuinely get into it every minute it's on.
I'm 24, and can remember crying in front of the TV as a child after losses, all while my dad cussed and ranted at the TV, proclaiming he'd never watch again, until next Sunday.

I can also remember my recently late Grandfather throwing his Bud Light bottle through the living room TV Screen as Tracy Porter sprinted into the end zone and winning the Super Bowl.

It's every bit of amazing where this team has gone even in my short lifetime. Let's enjoy the ride, and beat the breaks off of the Birds tonight.

Saints-Falcons Tonight

Posted by HuntTheJones on 11/22/18 at 4:01 pm
Am I the only one expecting a better than the experts think game tonight? Huge Saints fan here, and not trolling, but rivalry games get weird. Don't get me wrong, I hate the Dirty Birds as much as the next (and I know this is an ATL Sports Board), but I have the weird feeling the Falcons give us all we want tonight. Call it overconfidence from our side or ATL not wanting to lay down on the holiday against their biggest rival, call it what you want, I think it's close. Rivalry games get weird.

P.S. New to the boards in general. Born on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and raised a Saints fan, but wife is from Atlanta and whole family are all big ATL Sports people. I have adopted that with our impending move here, except for the Falcons. Never.

Here's to a great game tonight, but a Saints win so I can talk trash to my in-laws.
Should work now. It's the "out there" one. All Gold, true "Color Rush."

Saints Color Rush Concept

Posted by HuntTheJones on 11/22/18 at 3:51 pm
The Color Rush Whites look awesome, so I ran with a concept to make them full time (and add a Black and Gold set with Black and Gold pant options). I know, there is a black throwback already that resemble the Color Rush, but I added a slight update. From the graphic design community, the responses were predictable, but I wanted a true opinion from the Who Dats who are actually invested.

Obviously we know what the White top looks like, so it's not changed (White pants not included for that same reason). Gold pants are shown only here, because honestly thats the one I liked the best. Thoughts?
