re: Is Bama the de facto SEC champ?
Posted by Country Lawyer on 1/10/18 at 10:19 am to Paul B Ammer
Of course not. Both de facto and de jure the team that wins the SECCG is the SEC champ. Georgia is the SEC champ with no asterisks and deserves all the respect that goes with that title, just as LSU did in 2011. B

Washington wanted to hire Coach Bryant away from Kentucky but Mary Harmon refused to move to DC.

Irrelevant. This Monday Alabama only has to find a way to be better that Clemson for 60 minutes of game time. The rest is just" A tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
re: Can we please discuss this "eye test" advantage Bama supposedly has...

The Bottom Line in choosing between Alabama and Ohio State based on the "eye test":
Alabama won the game against a 7-5 conference opponent on the opponent's home field (Texas A&M)
Ohio State was crushed by a 7-5 conference opponent on the opponent's home field (Iowa)

Alabama has never beat a "good" Auburn team. Fact.
So it is your contention that the 1971 Auburn was not a "good" Auburn team?

Back in the late 70's the major football schools led by Coach Bryant and others formed the College Football Association as a response to NCAA bullheadedness and greed. When the CFA negotiated a TV contract without the NCAA the NCAA sued and lost. That led to each conference being able to contract their own TV contracts.
re: The Only QB to win a Super Bowl with Two Different Teams........

You youngsters think the world began in the late eighties. What about the QB who didn't produce great numbers but did produce championships. He had 3 pre-Super B owl NFL championships and 2 post Super Bowl championships: Bart Starr
re: Spinoff thread. Why do LSU players succeed in the NFL more than Bama players?
Posted by Country Lawyer on 1/22/16 at 7:37 am to Tuscaloosa
The OP's underlying premise seems to be that LSU has more talented players than Alabama because of their great success in the NFL.
I guess that is why LSU has dominated the SEC and College Football for the last seven years.

re: 2015 Clemson vs 2011 LSU
Posted by Country Lawyer on 1/14/16 at 12:45 pm to BigSlick
LSU 2011 was one of the best teams I have seen. Clemson 2015 was very good. Each got a chance to play for the title. Auburn 2004 never got a chance to play for the title and would be a candidate for the best team not to win a National title. However there is really only one answer: Alabama 1966

There was a Bluebonnet Bowl later known as the Astro Bluebonnet Bowl.
Bama played in the Bluebonnet Bowl in 1960 and the Astro Bluebonnet Bowl in 1970. Tied both games.

Coaches in the SEC
Nick Saban- Yankee
Les Miles- Yankee
Hugh Freeze- Reb
Dan Mullen- Yankee
Jim McElwain- Montana
Mark Stoops- Yankee
Kevin Sumlin- Reb
Barry Odom- Okie
Bret Bielema- Yankee
Gus Malzahn- Reb
Butch Jones- Yankee

Will Muschamp- Reb
Kirby Smart- Reb
Damn lot of yanks coaching in the SEC. Y'all should clean that up.
If this was 1860-1865 (or prior to 1976)I suppose since these coaches deserted the north for the south they would be classified as copperheads.

re: If Saban were to ever leave, this seems like the year

Barring some unforeseen health problems or the program collapsing, Saban is not going anywhere. He is incredibly competitive. He has 4 he needs 3 to beat CPB.
