re: Mizzou just became a training wheels football program

OP way to long to read
I like the hire
MR made a great football coach hire in Houston and we should probably give him the benefit of the doubt on Odom, or at least give it time to see how it works. Or, we can melt on day 1 of the hire like killz.

Weird.
J.R. and Kilgore know each other and some of the same contacts at the school, yet today they aren't on the same page at all.
Kilgore is adamant that nothing has changed...a homerun hire is imminent.
J.R. just texted today and said EVERYTHING has changed and that we may not even hire Odom.
Things are getting really weird...
Who is J.R.?
Any link to his posts/twitter?
Even though I have no idea who Kilgore is at least I'm seeing the source of his comments.
What is weird is this guy texting you only to have his supposed text messages reposted on this board by a person that has been banned multiple times and where people openly state they don't believe anything coming from said account.
Don't get me wrong, this J.R. might be right, Kilgore might be right or no one might be right. I don't think anyone has a clue at this point except MR himself. I heard through a text message from a friend of a friend that our next coach is... :banghead:
Also, I love your stories kills.

1. Patterson (can't argue with the success)
2. Fedora (very successfully especially considering the situation at UNC)
3. Hermann (ranked lower b/c of concern @ leaving for TX)
4. Odom (hear good things but no h/c experience)
.
.

.
10. Richt (he won't get a top 10 recruiting class at MU each year and he is not a good x/o's guy)
Realistic List: (1) Fedora, (2) Odom

Last year Pinkel was great. This year he is destroying our program. Look at where this program was before Pinkel got here and look where it is at now. Then, slap yourself in the face. :banghead:

That is interesting seeing all the stats together. Shows we have a bunch of mediocre qb's.
I thought I read multiple media outlets stating that MM looked the best throughout spring (although numbers from scrimmages don't have anyone standing out). Maybe it was just all the hype about his upside and dark horse Heisman potential that I remember.

Franklin struggles last year people are calling for MM to replace.
MM struggles and people are calling for Printz. At beginning of season people on this board were discussing MM as dark horse Heisman candidate.
Patience.
If anyone is going to replace MM it will be Lock in 1-2 years.
That being said, I'm okay with getting Printz a few reps as you want our backup prepared. I don't think it is prudent to call for Printz to replace MM when MM was clearly the better performer in the spring. Best case, you bring in Printz, he performs admirably and you have a QB until Lock is ready. The chance of 'best case' happening is slim when he was clearly not as good as MM in practices, Printz has no game experience and you would be throwing Printz in a starting role in the middle of your SEC schedule (granted, we do have Vandy next).
Worst case, you have a Florida situation where you destroy the confidence of your starter, your freshman QB is not ready to play and all of a sudden you are playing magic chairs with your qb's in the middle of conference play.
I'm as frustrated as anyone. If we had a 3rd of 4th year version of Franklin, Gabbert, or Daniel this team would have a top 10 ranking with the way the defense is playing. Unfortunately, we have a 2nd year version of MM. We are stuck with MM until Lock is ready, MM is hurt or MM shits the bed for another few games.
If I had a list of problems with this coaching staff the ranking of players on the depth chart would be near the bottom. Number one problem is probably recruiting, but, on the flip side, their biggest strength is player development. Let them have more time to develop MM before we call for his head.

Rickey is meh and will only be around for a year. I don't see us having a great team next year so I would prefer to start building for the future by giving the scholarship to freshmen (Allen if we can get him).
Any confirmation that wright is sticking with his commitment? It was nice to see Gant reconfirm.

re: Thoughts on what the KA hire looks like to me
Posted by hoff6383 on 4/30/14 at 3:42 pm
If Anderson starts out winning it will be because of great coaching. We have some talent, but our team is extremely young and we have no proven scorers at the D1 level. If he makes the NCAA or even the NIT next year that will be because of good coaching and player development - not luck.
I think most people expect year 1 of Anderson to be a rebuilding/reloading year.

meh, strange comparison
Never seen a basketball coach compared to a random stranger a guy watches playing blackjack in Vegas.
It sounds like you want to tell everyone you have been to Vegas. :moon:

Looks good. Hear anything about Wright though? We might just lose Punter with this coaching change. If we keep Gant and Wright that would be great considering that TN lost 4 commitments with their new coach. It makes me wonder what was going on behind the scenes when Haith leaves, two of his assistants stay and we keep our recruiting class (hopefully).

Yeah Kills, you have been pushing Anderson from the beginning. That doom and gloom was the general consensus I get from other posters around the rant. I was just agreeing with you to give the guy a chance and he might turn out to be a good hire.

I wasn't excited about this hire originally, but I'm warming up to him the more I read. My biggest concern is recruiting. I hope we retain Fuller and keep our two high school recruits.
Anderson kind of reminds me of Jim Crews at SLU. Not a flashy hire, but someone that gets the job done.
I'm not kills' biggest fan with some of these posts over the last few days, but I do agree that we should give the guy a chance. All this doom and gloom talk is a bit premature.

I'll vote Marshall, but that is probably just wishful thinking. Really, I see the chances as:
Howland 25%
Marshall 25%
Anderson 25%
Field 25%
I'd be really happy with Marshall, happy with Howland and disappointed with Anderson (but still supportive of the program).

I don't claim to know who the better coach is. I don't have the first hand knowledge to say coach x is better than coach y. All I stated was I would rather have Haith over Anderson.
The only thing I know for certain is that people with 100x more knowledge than me (athletic directors) have given all kinds of opportunities to Frank Haith and not even a sniff at Kim Anderson.

I would rather have Frank Haith than Anderson :yack:
I don't understand how Anderson's resume even comes close to any of the other names being thrown around for the job. There is a reason why he was passed up on the last 2 MU coaching vacancies and why no other D1 school has shown interest. I wouldn't even have him as my backup backup backup backup option.
When MU announced the BoC meeting a lot of people assumed MU already had an agreement in principle with a coach (a fair assumption). Since that point Anderson texted Gabe that he was not offered the job. I think we can rule him out. :usa:
As far as the remaining candidates I think most people have GM as their #1 choice. If he is taking the job I would think there would be a leak before Monday. I'm sure he would tell his ~10 players that he is leaving before the news hits the media and there would be a leak from one of the players before that time. He also signed a recruit today which makes me think he will not be our next coach. On the other hand, Haith signed Painter shortly before moving to Tulsa. These coaches work until the contract is actually signed, so I'm not sure how much we can read into that.
The lack of leaks make me think it is Howland. Since he is out of coaching there is no players he would need to tell that he is leaving for another program.
My preference after GM would actually be Floyd then Howland, but I think Floyd was ruled out by one of the beat writers. I like how Alden seems to be looking for a Gary Pinkel type. Someone that shows loyalty, can coach and will be at the helm of the program for a long time. That is why I don't think he prefers the ~60+ year old coaches, but I think he will have to settle on one of them if GM does not take the job because none of the other coaches in their 40's are a sure bet. Alden is on the hot seat a bit after his last 3 hires and can't afford a risky pick here. That is why, if I had to guess, Alden's board has GM #1 and Howland #2.
Full disclosure, I have no idea who the MU coach is going to be. I think MU has handled this coaching search very well. They learned from their past mistakes (see Painter and Gov. Nixon) and kept everything tight lipped.
I'm excited for Monday.
