Texas A&M quarterback Haynes King has been named the Aggies starter over Zach Calzada, head coach Jimbo Fisher announced on ESPN's 97.5 in Houston on Wednesday morning. Per 247 Sports:

“When you talk about those two guys, Zach is a very talented man and can throw the football very well,” Fisher said earlier this fall. “Everybody gets caught up with his arm. Zach is a really good athlete. He can run around. Zach is an NFL talent. I think Haynes King is an NFL talent. Haynes King can really throw the football. He’s tough. He’s competitive. He can run — just like Zach.

“Those guys have great minds and I’m telling ya, I was extremely pleased with both of those guys in spring ball. They have great knowledge of what we’re doing. They can get the ball to all parts of the field, deep, short and understand what we're doing. They understands protections. They have escapability and creativity. More importantly, they’re great decision-makers. They’re accurate with the ball, but they have an unbelievable competitiveness to them.”

Calzada was the No. 20 pro-style quarterback and No. 487 overall prospect in the 2019 247Sports Composite, while King entered a class later as the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback and No. 131 overall player.
