Prior to Florida and Tennessee squaring off this upcoming weekend, former Gators coach Dan Mullen shared his thoughts on Vols fans...
quote:

"They have not been on top, or even really in the mix as a top program for quite a while," Mullen said on the College GameDay podcast (h/t Saturday Down South). "But every time you go in there, the stadium’s packed. It’s going to be deafening. I think it’s one of the most impressive stadiums in all of college football."

Neyland sucks quite honestly.

He's right. been to this game many, many times and Neyland is just as loud today as it was during Majors and Fulmer. When UT comes to ttown they show up en masse. The support has never wavered.

Tennessee’s average home attendance in 2021 was 86,000 which is 17,000 short of a sell out per game.

Tennessee problems for the last 20 years had been leadership at the top not at the football level. Now it appears UT has fixed the issues with the president and AD.

Even outside the southeast Tennessee has been recruiting nationally just fine over the years. Just take a look at the current roster and you will see kids from California and Arizona on the roster.

Also Tennessee had done very well over the years recruiting the west coast. Eric Ange, Casey Clausen snd Velus Jones are just a few examples. Also they have the #2 QB in the country coming to UT that’s from California.

Even Butch Jones was able to pull in the #3 class in the country and couple top 10 class.
Pruitt and Dooley even had top 15 classes in recruiting. Pruitt, Butch and Dooley are Tennessee worse 3 coaches in school history.

Now that UT has the dysfunctional leadership behind them, expect them to improve not only in football but all sports. Danny White is considered one of the top AD’s in the country. He had been the best AD Tennessee has had over the last 15 years.

Remember where Tennessee was before Heupel showed up? Year before Tennessee had 2 players drafted. Huepel 1st year he had 31 players to transfer out and 5 players drafted still. He took over a team under NCAA investigation and only 55 players on scholarship. Tennessee had the smallest team “scholarship wise” than anyone Power 5 team.

Huepel is the best coach at UT since Phil left and will have Tennessee back to a respectable program soon. He already has a top 15 recruiting class and most likely be Top 10 for the 23 class.

The real SECCG will be played in Athens on 11/5/22. UGA vs Tennessee will be a real dogfight that will go down to the last play. Whoever wins that game is a shoe in to win in Atlanta and will make a deep playoff run.

As a Georgia fan I’m excited for the Tennessee game but I got to be honest, I’m a bit scared!!!!

Tennessee is a sleeping giant if a coach could resurrect the program.

Tennessee has a recruiting problem. Their in state base is weak. They have powerhouses recruiting the areas they need and they are surrounded by Ohio State, Bama, UGA, Clemson, and even Kentucky has emerged as competition. Where does Tennessee go Nationally that they don’t have major competitors for talent. Tennessee is similar to Nebraska in that their time has kinda come and gone.

Tennessee during the 90's and 2000's was one of the first national recruiting schools... (other than Notre Dame)... now every top program recruits nationally. Will be hard for Tennessee to return to the top, but they can get back to having a chance.

Way before the 90's. Why they are such a national brand as they would play all over the the country. So they were doing national recruiting, national home for home series, and 100K+ stadium before it was normal. UT had to recruit nationally due to not having good in-state recruits, until recently. West TN had it, but competition is high there. A good long term coach could get them there but that fan base is heard to keep happy enough to build what is needed. Maybe they find the next saban to come in as they are down, cause everyone seems to forget how low bama was before him, but UT sure does have the infrastructure in place to pull it off.

You must be young. USC, Notre Dame, Nebraska, OU, Michigan, and Ohio State all recruited Nationally long before Tennessee. The difference with Tennessee and Nebraska is they didn’t and still don’t have a strong recruiting base in their home state.
