The VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championships took place at Liberty University on Friday. During the girls' 4x200 meter relay final, things got way too physical between two runners...
quote:

Brookville High School's Kaelen Tucker was the second leg runner for her team. She was making her way inside - things can get pretty tight during relays, especially on indoor tracks - when another runner from a different team took issue. The opposing runner proceeded to take her baton and smack Tucker in the head.

Thank God the girl who hit the victim looked like her. Otherwise we'd never hear the end of it.

I’m sure not a damned thing will happen to her.

That’s assault and should be dealt with by charging the opponent. If I hit someone over the head with a stick I would go to jail. How is this any different?

I do not think it is different, in the context of this sport, that was clearly an assault. Where it gets fuzzy is in games like hockey and Lacrosse. Ever been to a college lacrosse game? They beat the crap out of each other with sticks and get a couple minutes in the penalty box at worst
