Brent Musburger to be "lead" announcer for the SEC Network?

SportsIllustrated.com is reporting that Brent Musburger has been offered the job of lead college football announcer for the upcoming SEC Network which debuts in August.

It is unclear whether Musburger will take that offer, as some sources I spoke with noted he is unhappy with how the process is shaking out. What seems clear is that Musburger is being pulled from the lead announcer spot for ABC's Saturday Night Football, which is ESPN's top game each week. (Musburger, via ESPN PR, turned down an interview request from SI.com. "He isn't doing any interviews on the subject," said an ESPN spokesperson.)

Brent is up to his nose in the Big 10 and Pac 12. Whomever he feels should win the game gets his favorable slant. He is not a good "disinterested" conveyor of the game.

Dear God, I don't ask for much. I didn't ask you for a trophy wife. I didn't ask you for one of those cushy high paying jobs. I didn't ask for a mansion with a swimming pool. I didn't ask for a BMW or Range Rover. I don't ask you for Natty's or even SEC titles. I just go with the flow, try to be a good steward...be good to my mean wife, work my arse off at my job, try and keep my normal house up, drive my Ford and support Ole Miss and that's damn tough. Chicken: Him being like Keith Jackson is exectly why I don't want him. Jackson was the most egotistical absolute butthole on the face of the planet. I worked for him one game as a preoduction assistant back in the day and he was obnoxious, arrogant and he was KEITH JACKSON and you had better bow down and kiss the ring.
I worked with Bud Wilkinson and Duffy Daugherty from that point forward until the ABC contract expired. Bud was the consumate gentleman and Duffy was a blast. Both knew just about everything about Football and didn't ever make anyone on the crew feel second class
