Texas High School Hires Former SEC Head Coach Chad Morris To Lead Football Program
© Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports
Allen High School in Texas is one of the most prominent football programs in the state. On Wednesday, they announced the hiring of former SEC head coach Chad Morris, who looks to have the perfect resume for the job. Per The Spun...

Morris has plenty of experience in the Texas high school football ranks. From 1994 through 2009, he coached at Eustace, Elysian Fields, Bay City, Stephenville, and finally, Lake Travis High Schools, all in the state.

In 2010, he became assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Tulsa, and a year later, took the OC job on Dabo Swinney’s staff at Clemson, where he career really took off. He took over a struggling SMU program in 2015, getting them to 7-5 and a bowl game in three years, after taking over a 1-11 program. He used that as a springboard to the job at Arkansas, but his tenure in the SEC was pretty disastrous. He was fired after going 4-18 (0-14) in less than two full seasons. He spent last year as offensive coordinator at Auburn.

“I am honored to join Allen ISD and the Allen Eagles football program,” Chad Morris said in the school’s release. “Allen High School is known throughout the state and nation for having a storied tradition of excellence in everything it does, and the football team is certainly included in that discussion.

“My roots run deep in Texas high school football, and I’m excited for the opportunity to get back to coaching young student-athletes and making an impression on their lives. As a coach, I’ll expect our students to work hard, but I want them to know that I care about their overall development as leaders both on and off the field. It’s my goal to establish a culture that can impact our student-athletes in a positive way, and I believe that will allow us to compete for championships on a consistent basis.”

He had a pretty good high school team at Arkansas. That is why he is ex-coach and they have a real one now.

pretty big fall, from SEC to high school. Many other failed head coaches catch on as a coordinator. Maybe he just wanted a break.

He may have realized he prefers HS ball. Also Allen has an 18k capacity stadium, so not a big fall at all. HC there is probably better than a coordinator spot at 95% schools. And the expectations/pressure there is the HS equivalent of the top of the SEC. Now money wise it may be a big drop, but still easily 6-figures.

Allen's job posting for a head football coach estimates an annual salary up to nearly $124,000 ($476.01 per day). At Arkansas, Morris originally signed a six-year deal worth roughly $3.5 million per year — a contract that Arkansas is still paying him as a part of a buyout.36 mins ago - Dallas News

gauruntee his salary is 1 cent less than the superintendent... texas state law says no one can be paid higher than him... he prob signed a district contract which doesnt mean he is tied to a school.. in texas the principal cannot make less than the football coach by law... so they give "district athletic director" for multiple schools so his salary now ties to the superintendant rather than the school.. katy does the same thing.. but a ISD can pay him whatever they want, just has to be less than the superintendant... unless the board votes to have him as independent contractor... but thats never done..
