Info On Why Nick Saban Couldn’t Hire Hugh Freeze In January........
© Adam Hagy-USA TODAY Sports
A new report says Alabama head coach Nick Saban wanted to hire former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze as a co-offensive coordinator and position coach earlier this year, but SEC commissioner Greg Sankey kind of blocked that idea due to Freeze's recent troubles. Per Al.com...
quote:

“It was only a few days after Saban’s mid-January meeting with Freeze that he learned he couldn’t make the hire. Sankey informed both Freeze and Alabama that it would look bad for the SEC for Freeze to be back coaching in the league while Ole Miss suffered from NCAA penalties incurred under his watch.

The SEC preferred that Freeze, who resigned in July following a “pattern of personal misconduct,” go off the radar for at least a little while before trying to return to work at one of its schools.”
According to the report, five schools including Bama, LSU and Missouri reached out to Freeze.

There is no “kind of”. Either Sankey blocked the hire or he didn’t. No need to sound indecisive about it.

student athletes should have the same flexibility as coaches; ie coach gets fired or moves on the new gig, athletes from that sport should have the option to transfer with no penalties...

No they should not. If they allowed student athletes to transfer at will then you are effectively giving the death penalty to the school every time a coach gets fired or takes a new job. Then if you allowed jids to transfer at will when a coach takes a new job you are asking for recruiting of players to never stop being recruited.

Good for Sankey. It’s not right that kids who had nothing to do with Hugh’s many indiscretions be penalized while he cashes in. If you’re going to put a school on probation the coach should be banned from college football for the same amount of time.
