The folks down in Florida want to put those fans and students storming the field after big games in jail...
quote:

Criminal penalties would become possible for those who try and rush onto a field or court at a sporting or entertainment event if one of two newly introduced bills in the Florida Legislature makes it to Governor DeSantis’s desk. Freshman Republican Senator Corey Simon of Tallahassee introduced SB 764, or the “Interference with Sporting or Entertainment Events” bill on Tuesday, February 14.

SB 764 would make it a first-degree misdemeanor, which carries up to a year in jail and fines up to $2,500 if someone enters a “covered area” in a stadium or venue. This area is defined as “any area designated for use by players, coaches, officials, performers, or personnel administering a covered event that is on, or adjacent to, the area of performance or play.”

This is the world you inherit when you elect a majority of lawyers to your legislature.

First, this bill was introduced by a former FSU player.

Second, it is to stop fan interference in a game (idiots running onto a field during the game), and to stop fans interfering with opposing teams' coaches and players trying to leave the field.

Third, there is no intention of trying to arrest everyone. It gives law enforcement another advantage when trying to stop fans from injuring opposing players, coaches, and referees.

As soon as one person is injured, there would be lawsuits and the normal crying over why wasn't something done to prevent this.

There's already laws on the books for that...Assault & Battery, maybe Stalking, maybe a Hate Crime.

There's over 100k laws on the books in this country that'll send you to jail. I don't think we need another one.

And I'm sure the court system can handle 50k folks wanting to plead not guilty and fighting it...like I'd surely do.

Hmmm...how many jurors would that be?

The bill says interference of an event. So to me it would apply to a person that ran on the field during the game as opposed to storming the field afterward.
