A group of 20 semifinalists were trimmed to Mullen, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer and Oregon’s Mark Helfrich.

Mullen helped lead Mississippi State to its first-ever No. 1 ranking. The Bulldogs are going to a school-record fifth straight bowl game when they face Georgia Tech in Orange Bowl on Dec. 31 in Miami Gardens, Fla.

In 2014, MSU won 10 regular season games for the first time and finished second in the SEC Western Division. Mullen developed quarterback Dak Prescott into a finalist for national player of the year, while leading a record-setting offense that averaged 506.2 yards per game.
The winner will be announced on Dec. 22.

The same Dan Mullen that ignored Stomper Days actions and defended them nationally? Great role model there.
