Travel curfew may have cost the Dores the first loss of the season. LBS started strong (9 of their 13 were scored by the end of 3) but VU was getting back in (7 of their 9 were scored after 3) as the game progressed. Still took 2 of 3 but a sweep would have been nice. Took the series with the Ducks @ Eugene which was a nice non conference road win

This team has the potential to be stellar. Unlike last year, we bring back over 70% of our starting innings pitched with only Selman leaving and Ziomek, TJ, and Beede being our new rotation. Those three could be one of the best rotations this year. Beede has been praised for his development over the summer and in fall ball, so I am extremely excited to see strong pitching across the entire weekend. Our pen is as deep as it has ever been, and the Millers should continue to be outstanding.

Our fielding should not be an issue either. The team's inexperience showed last year with far too many errors, especially for a Corbin-coached team. My only real worry is at the bat, and hopefully the we've improved production over the year. I'm not sure. Long Beach will be a great bellwether. Solid pitching with below average hitting. It lets us test our hitting abilities without worrying about coming back from huge deficits. We'll know a lot more in a month, but I'm optimistic this team will be making a run in Hoover and should be hosting a regional.

Anybody know how good this Long Beach State will be this year? They were hot in the past decade but have cooled a bit in the past few years so anybody know what they have in the bullpen this year?

I found this summary to be pretty useful in gauging how good they'll be. Hopefully, they'll have a slow start again.

Ziomek sure is looking like an ace so far this season.

Ziomek ran into a lot of trouble in later innings Friday. I want to blame an inconsistent ump, but he need him to return to style.

Yep need to do our best to sweep the Vawls this week. With a relatively "easy" opening few weekends in the SEC schedule this year VU needs to rack up the Ws before tougher series come later in the season.

That's an odd bunch of losses. I understand losing the occasional midweek because its a staffing day but not when we only score one run. The RPIs of those teams (aside from Oregon of course) are just awful.

4 were early season and only 2 were SEC so all and all I would say that is pretty stout. Mainly just noting the losses were not to teams you might think they would lose to. I can see the TN losses as the small schools get up for those game where they can knock off the SEC team.

It is like they figure they have to give up some losses to release some pressure but they make sure it is not to top schools when it really matters.

Season with 1 game to go and (7) losses

02/17 vs Long Beach State in game called for travel :::: 9-13
03/10 @ Oregon :::: 5-7
03/20 @ MTSU :::: 1-4
03/22 vs Florida :::: 1-7
04/16 vs Tennessee Tech :::: 9-10
04/20 @ Georgia :::: 1-3
05/17 vs Alabama :::: 5-4 (10)

Odd that they have lost more at home than on the road. I had a feeling that with that close game to the Tide in the first game things would be closer in the next 2. Could also be they could afford to lose this game if they were already thinking about winning it all at Hoover.

Well, I'd certainly rather have them lose meaningless game or two like that one last night than to lose in Hoover...

Good game with LSU and the win would have been nice but would rather get the CWS over the SEC.

Agreed. On to ETSU! They might be one of the best 4 seeds with their ace. I'm glad we will be pitching Ziomek. Should be a really good game.

Bummed they could not get me my normal seats and all they had left was outfield for this regional. If Louisville wins their region the next round will be the I - 65 series.
