Excited about Pepperdine, just hope we get good weather.
I think the season tickets should be out now.

Hosting Arkansas will be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to that series.

Me too. That'll be a great series. I had to do a double take when I saw we weren't playing Ole Miss. I was stuck thinking they were our permanent West opponent. I wish we were playing LSU, but hopefully, we will just have to beat them in the SEC Tournament.

Does Pepperdine ever have bad weather?

Loving the offense these first two games!

Highlights of the weekend
1. Raby and Eder had the best pitching appearances on staff. Rocker is going to get at least one more start to see if he settles, but Hickman/Eder show the control to bump him from the Sunday role. Zach King could also come in and start Sunday, but I like him as a mid-inning reliever who can lock down an offense for 2-3 innings.
2. The offense looks damn good, Sunday notwithstanding. Sad to see Infante has not learned how to handle the breaking ball, so I hope not to see him too much. Gonzales had similar problems, but he showed an ability to hit for average this weekend. Let's hope that continues. Also, once DeMarco gets hot, this offense will be unstoppable.
3. That defense tho. I expect to see a lot more jitters in opening weekend, so I was pleased to see only two errors on the stat sheet.
4. Cooper Davis is a speedster, and I love it.

Vandy's pitching made the ouch list this week

– Vanderbilt Pitching What Happened: Gave up 28 runs in three games. Why It Hurts: This is a mound corps everyone is expecting to be one of the best in the country. As Aaron Fitt wrote in his preseason write-up of the Commodores pitching, “Vanderbilt is absurdly deep on the mound.” So it was really weird to see the Anchor Down boys give up 28 runs and 32 hits while walking 17 and plunking four this weekend. Don’t freak out Dores fans, we realize they played high-quality teams in Virginia, Fullerton and TCU and still won two out of three. It was just weird to see them give up football scores all weekend. I’m confident these things won’t last long.

Pepperdine had a good weekend last night and the folks at D1Baseball had a short summary on them:
quote:
The race for the West Coast Conference championship is wide open with Saint Mary’s, Pepperdine and others leading the charge. The Waves began the season in Arizona and didn’t disappoint.
Pepperdine smoked CSU Bakersfield 11-0 in the season opener before beating California 7-5 and beating Wichita State 13-8. The Waves, in their second game of the day Sunday afternoon, dropped their finale to Stanford, but the weekend was a success after scoring 32 runs in four games. Charlie Welch led the charge offensively with a .400 average over the weekend, while Quincy McAfee and Brandt Belk had averages of .353 and .333, respectively. Wyatt Young, who hit .294, also had a nice weekend with four RBIs.
On the mound, Cooper Chandler struck out two and allowed a run on four hits in 5.1 innings, while Jonathan Pendergast struck out five and allowed just three hits in six shutout innings. Michael Mahony also had a nice weekend with a pair of saves in two innings pitched.

More bad weather tomorrow may postpone the Pepperdine series even further

That seems to be the case for a lot of series across the country. That really sucks. These OOC series are really helpful in settling into a good rotation.
3 ER in two games? That’s the Vandy I expected. Very pleased with the performances today except for DeMarco’s continued struggles.
Pepperdine faced the following pitchers in the doubleheader:
Fellows
Hickman
Raby
Rocker
Brown
Eder
That is sick.

Glad to see him coming around after a slow start. Even more excited to see Becker come in and dominate like he did. How great would it be to see Rocker and Becker lock down dominating weekend starting spots in 2020 and 2021?

Runs can really stack up when the opposing pitchers give up 17 free passes...

My God, when's the last time Florida lost an SEC series by a composite score even remotely approaching 34-6?!?!
