I remember him coming to my middle school one day for an FCA meeting. Had a big cross on his neck.
Was the Carter era the start of the "tUGA" reputation? I can't seem to remember.

All five interceptions he threw against an average at best Crackalina team were right at the defenders....

There was a lot more to that story...

What does Thug mean to you? The team was out of control in the 80s and 90s... Probably more than they have been recently. Dooley, Goff, and even Donnan had people in place to minimize police Interaction... People getting "arrested" for DUI , expired license, parking tickets, public drunkeness, and fighting are a big part of what lead to the thug rep... Thug is a code word for "black people stuff", yet the whitest of frat boys get caught for the exact same shite and a lot of them get out of it because their dad knows a judge... So it is not some football player thing. It is stupid though, no excuse for a lot of that, but stupid is not thug. Guns can be thug, but I know two white now retired nfl players who got caught firing a sks off the 3rd floor of the Mac, got caught, and nothing happened other than a stern talking to... The main thing that changed is people started getting arrested..

Joe Cox was simply not starting QB material in the SEC. That said, I think he gets more blame than he ought to. Again, he simply lacked the physical talent to be a starting QB in the SEC. That said, he still threw 24 TDs in his final season on campus. The strength of our receiving core would have allowed Cox to be an effective game manager. The problem is we had no running game to speak of (remember our running game getting owned by Oklahoma State's defense to start the season?) and a terrible defense. Bottom line is that Cox and the receivers were forced to carry the entire team and he simply lacked the talent to do this. Would have been interesting to see how well he would have done with the 2011/12 defense and running game. Again, not saying he had any business being a starting SEC QB, but I do think he played beyond his abilities (24 TDS). Can't say the same for the other candidates on the list.

Cox could have won a NC if he played at Bama last year...

My pick is Greg Talley 1989-1990 UGA QB.
Agreed.
I actually talked for Cox at the start of his year, based solely on the way he came in and played against Colorado the year before when Mattie was gettin his arse handed to him the whole first half. Cox came in and played pretty inspired and won that game. As the man though, he was just too up in the air, you never knew which Joe Cox you were gonna get.
