On a critical third and nine for Vandy, just after Milroe ran for a TD in the third quarter, at the snap, the Vandy O-line players all dove to the ground. The pass rush was disrupted and Pavia connected for a first down. Is such a technique common?

Was common in the triple option days. Smaller guys getting lower on bigger guys and taking their legs out. Just have to start the block above the belt .

Can't you go below the belt as long as it's not from the side or behind, and the player isn't already engaged up top with another blocker?

Not totally sure, just know they outlawed a lot ofnthe old option blocking schemes.

"Getting low" is one thing but I've never seen or heard of a O- line "diving to the ground" in pass protection.

I'd like to see for myself.

We did it in hs when I ran the veer. We were small and we chopped them every play.

Triple option says "hi".... damn we play GT for damn near two decades with a similar blocking scheme.

They should call it the "Knee wrecker."

So the way to neutralize it is to have the line, line up a yard off the ball.

Tennessee tried that when they played GT a few years ago. Tech ran for a country mile on them. I think Butch Jones was trying to avoid injuries but they nearly lost the game.

Once again,I get all that.

I was referring to the OP's description and the how it was used by the OL in pass protection. It makes zero sense.

When I coached high school ball we did it on quick three step drops. It was more like a quick bear crawl. The idea was to hit them in the thighs, forcing their hands down to open up slants and routes like that.
