Play is at 8:14.

You are telling me that Gunner had to throw the ball back shoulder to Reddell? Back shoulder was good placement?

Put it on his face mask. He was going to get tackled regardless of placement.

As for the underneath linebacker, his positioning would imply the opposite of back shoulder.

Gunner had a great day. There were about 2 throws that I recall that he would like another Crack at. And there was at least 1 turndown where if given another chance I think he rips it.

Did Gunner make any bad passes all game?

I think his only bad decision was on that one scramble where he didn't really commit to running and got absolutely steamrolled by that 340lb DL. Other than that he was pretty flawless.

It is not “back shoulder”… you throw the ball to the window in the zone. The receiver adjusts.

I am using the wrong terminology.

The throw was behind the receiver and incomplete.

There was not a reason to place the ball behind the receiver.

Throw it to the facemask and he catches the ball and we move the sticks.

window in the zone.

You've mentioned this window twice.

Watch the film. Reddell is bracketed high-low.

There is no defender fieldside.
Who are you avoiding by throwing the ball on Reddell's body? You aren't leading him into any defender because his route is digging into the middle of the field.

Just want to say that this is being done without Stockton's favorite target from camp, Isaiah Canion.

Very excited about our offense compared to a year ago.

It is not bracketed. There is a safety there. Do you think if Gunner leads the TE to catch the ball on the run, which would be like a good 5 feet from where the ball was actually thrown, would that Safety would be in the same place once the ball reached that area? The answer is no.

Furthermore, we, as fans, do not know what play was called. It is very possible that in that look, the TE was to settle and he leaked due to his momentum.

Did Gunner make the right throw? There is a decent chance he did. Throwing from your endzone with a deep cross into cover 2 is a sure way to throw a pick if you decide to lead a crosser. Or maybe it wasn’t even a deep cross… maybe it was a settle.

Let's dumb this down.

Cover 2.
Middle of the field open or closed?
Where are the safeties on cover 2?

Where would be the more dangerous spot to place a ball in cover 2?

We can at least be honest with one another.

I guess where we differ is you think the safety who is right there over the top due to the depth of the route, down and distance, that he is just gonna stand there and watch a ball thrown 20 yards over the middle. If this was an 8 yard route, it is a different situation.

He is going to react regardless and attempt the tackle.

You can throw it behind to try and stop the receiver.
You can put it on his face.
You can put it out front.
The safety has the angle on all 3.

So put it on his face or out in front.
There is no defender out in front (you aren't leading the receiver into a hit).

His deep passes were all right on the money. Even the few incompletions should have been caught. Gunner is definitely the most improved player on the team.

This is where I think you are not understanding. You assume that defender sitting there in zone, watching the QB, can’t close that gap.

After watching that clip, if Gunner leads him that safety coming down is in great position to pick that ball off. The throw was too far behind but that was a tight window.

I will correct myself though that I don’t think Reddell should have settled. He had a defender behind and coming down on him. So just a tight pass that was incomplete.
