if you could wave a half broken magic wand and have the coach that you want at UGA tomorrow *that you think we could realistically pull*... who is it... why?
If OKC or Chicago fire Donovan or Hoiberg, throw $2.5-3 million at them and make them say no. Fox makes $1.5ish. Those guys are easily worth double him.
That being said, I don't know if those are realistic options. I just don't want to half-arse an attempt to get better. Tennessee and State hired coaches who underachieved at their previous destination, but both had final 4s and a ton of tourney appearances. Auburn went all Auburn and hired a cheater, but also a very charismatic guy with pervious success. Bama hired a former NBA COTY. South Carolina hired a guy with an Elite 8 appearance.
So if we're going to make a change I want to make that level of commitment. A young guy with energy like Mike White or Will Wade would be fine as well. I just really don't want to fire Fox and make a lazy arse hire.

I've never been a huge college baseball guy, but I think it also sucks that our team was so terrible during my time in Athens it never was an event people wanted to attend.
I have the opposite problem, when I was in school it was one of the heydeys in program history and that entire 08 postseason was one of my most cherished memories of my time in Athens. The difference in that era and currently is like comparing apples to exhaust pipes.
Baseball is a whole different animal than the other sports, us building a palace like arkansas or LSU have isn't gonna cure all our woes. First you get a coach, then the recruits and wins come, the fans and money then follow, then you're talking. But we aint gonna do shite in baseball with stricklin.

There is zero excuse in the state of Georgia, for us not to not be great at baseball. The worst was probably 2014, when KSU, Ga Southern, and Tech all made the tourney and we were at home. Well, either that or 2010 when we went like 15-35 or something like that.
Fwiw, we still haven't had a winning record with Stricklin as our coach. I don't care if he doesn't lose a game this year, he still deserved to be fired last season.

Actually got bumped up to 2M/year in 2015...

Definitely this. If we fire him it has to be a legitimate move to try and contend IMO. The conference is improving in basketball on the whole. It's not just UK and a bunch of also rans right now... We realistically needed to do it 2 years ago, but instead we decided to extend him and give him a raise.

Hell... why wait to see if they get fired... back channel 3M+ offer and see if they bite at all... Easily would be money well spent if you could land them.
Hoiberg is interesting as I wonder if Iowa State would try to lure him back at some point... his alma mater. But they're probably reasonably happy with Prohm, who took them to the tourney his first 2 years, finished top 25 both of those years, and won the conference tournament. Not having quite as good a go of it this season, but they may be happy with where they're at.
Donovan would be a hell of a get, but he was set to make 4M/year at UF before he left... reportedly took 6M/year for the OKC gig I think? Pretty sure if we throw 3M at him, we've got a 3 year rental. Hoiberg at least was only making 2.6 at Iowa State (and 5M/year with the Bulls), and that was *after* a 600k bump from a tourney run.

Who are the "young guys with energy" like White or Wade right now? I hesitate to even say it but Nevada head coach Musselman seems to be getting a lot of love on "top up and comers" lists. (Where did Mark Fox come from?
Mick Cronin at Cincinnati is clearly very good, but already making 2.2M there and has a top 25 caliber program. Don't see him bouncing for anything other than a blue blood job or stupid money.
Mostly unrelated to possible coaches... was looking at KenPom rankings. On the adjusted Offensive figures, we have the second lowest value of any team in the top 75 (only Texas is lower) - #131 overall. Defensive efficiency... 29th overall.
Kelvin Sampson, to no surprise at all, has Houston looking quite balanced, ranking top 50 in both offensive and defensive efficiency... Too tainted for us to remotely look at, but a good coach.
Still makes me feel like Hurley would be a really good target, but don't believe we'd land him (or keep him very long if we did).

I will say it again, I like the style that Matt McCall’s teams play with. I worry that he wouldn’t be a big enough name to get big time recruits and I worry that if he had major success he’d dip out in 2-3 years.

MIke Edwards just didn’t bite on a pump fake. I repeat. Mike Edwards did not bite on a pump fake, and then followed that with good interior defense.

I just don’t understand Fox’s rotation, I know it’s about matchups but why doesn’t Harris not Crump play more. They provide instant offense even though Crumps defense is suspect. Our team defense is good enough to overcome Crumps shortcomings on defensive end, we need more firepower on offense to help Maten more consistently and Crump gives that almost every time he’s been given a chance.

I just wish we had two players who could dribble.
Posted on 1/23/18 at 6:14 pm to Dawgsontop34
Just continues to play Wilridge!!! He is an abysmal ball handler.

I don't get the substitution patterns. They started to run a press in the 1st half and we kept Wilridge out there instead of putting in Hightower or Crump.

Mark fox please go elsewhere. Thanks

My favorite of the game was in the first half after Claxton drilled a 3 and Fox immediately pulled him to put Edwards in the game. Just senseless.

Turtle just completely fell asleep on defense there.
Posted on 1/23/18 at 7:31 pm to Dawgsontop34
Did he just step on the damn line on the inbound?!!
Posted on 1/23/18 at 7:35 pm to SumterCoDawg
Why not call a TO with 7 seconds left and try to set something up?
Posted on 1/23/18 at 7:36 pm to SumterCoDawg
I was wondering the same thing. Did we not have any TOs? Really confused by that last sequence there.
Posted on 1/23/18 at 7:37 pm to SumterCoDawg
FIne with either decision on that final play. A lot of times it’s been better just to play it out with no timeouts because of defense not setting up, with that being said he took an awful shot, could have gotten closer
Posted on 1/23/18 at 7:37 pm to wertheimer
I thought we did, if so it didn't make much sense to let Turtle try to win the game.
