Can I post here?
Edit:
Great, I want to talk basketball with ya'll since our game is coming up.
How do ya'll feel about your team? Obviously Maten is an absolute monster, but what else is UGA doing well? You've been a huge surprise for me this year
Hope to see some of you in Auburn in a few weeks for a good game

I think most of us are pretty much of the same mind. Whether it's posters who like Fox or not, suffice it to say that the results thus far are better than what most would have predicted. We have some quality wins which is nice even though the OOC schedule was not particularly strong for us.
As to conference play expectations, I think we're still looking for consistent scoring threats outside of Maten. It's starting to come together though at least. 3pt shooting is wildly inconsistent. Compare percentage from conference games played so far for example...
UK: 9.5%
Ole Miss: 31%
Alabama: 36.8%
We're also not a great FT shooting team.. if that doesn't change over the course of the year, I envision it costing us pretty significantly at some point (outside of contributing to a loss in what was a very winnable UK game).
Hope we have a good turnout at the Auburn game as well, but I'll unfortunately be traveling.

We have interesting dynamics to our team. We have more skill and depth than we’ve had in quite a while.
We have mix of experience. Some are very experienced, some are moderately experienced but still gaining a lot in that area and then some that are extremely greet
As Fib said we are to volatile with our perimeter shooting and our turnover rate is not quiet consistent enough. Our roster is pretty flexible and we can find a lineup that will match with a lot of different teams.

SEC Basketball Stats as of Jan 8th:
About as expected, one of the lower 3pt percentages (only MSU is lower, though Vandy/USC/Bama right in the same area less than .5% better). I did find it interesting that teams shooting 3pt% *against* us has been lower than any team not named Kentucky or aTm... not sure how much of that should be attributed to defense, and how much to teams shooting poorly against us from outside. Will be interesting to monitor that. This same logic could be carried over to the effective FG percentage against as well.
FT% not as bad as I thought when stack ranked... decidedly average-ish.
Not getting blocks/steals at a high enough clip... particularly when compared to our turnover percentage. We have to, have to, have to clean that up or nothing else is going to matter.
We are shooting FTs at a higher rate than anyone else in the SEC... not only that, but opponents are shooting less than the league average against us as well. We're +6.4 for, and -3.4 against... Would hope some of this is leadership and clean play, but would imagine this regresses to the mean a bit as well.
We're rebounding well... USC with an insane number there though, only giving up OR on 23.5% of FGAs (thus the high differential). Looks like that will be an interesting factor in our Auburn matchup as well. We both average higher OR% than what the other team's defense gives up.

If we continue to improve as the season goes on I think we are a top 4 team. Auburn is overrated and we provide matchup problems with Florida and Tenn.
I am really surprised to see A&M struggle as they have in SEC play.
Tonight will really tell the story of our team. Tough SEC matchup on the road against an energized team. The fiasco of Miss Florida loss could play a factor like the A&M loss did for us last year.

Maybe... but the stats above tend to indicate they're good at things that are important and carry over from week to week pretty well...
FT - +6% over the league average in FTR and decidedly average on number of attempts.
OR - that differential may be propped up based on who they've played thus far, I really don't know, but they're rebounding well...
Defensive stats - Blocks/Steals... defense wins ball games that matter... they're playing pretty well defensively it would appear.
Certainly a lot of basketball to be played, but have a hard time saying they're overrated based on the statistics. You'd have to lean on a much more biased "eye test" to make that conclusion.

2 more CBs in for Tyson Campbell. We need you kid.
Can he shoot a 3 and handle the rock? Seems a little small for anything other than Point Guard...

You got to define overrated. Is AU a top 10-15 team? Probably not. Have they been playing like a top 2-3 SEC Team? Absolutely

quote:Every player who logs >15mpg shoots >70% and look confident at the line. Auburn also gets to the line at an extremely high rate #56 nationally
FT-

OR
While we did well OR against weaker OOC competition, this has held up through 3 conference games. AU is #1 in conference play thus far in offensive rebounding % according to KenPom
.... Auburn is also #14 in Defensive Rebounding%. Auburn seemed to have some 'unlucky bounces' but I don't know if AU at their best could be better than mid tier DRebounding
quote:
Defensive stats - Blocks/Steals.
Auburn is one of the top shot blocking teams in the country and is a huge part of AU's great 2FG% defense. It looks legit, as AU blocked quite a few shots in SEC conf play as well
Steals... hard to say. Auburn does an excellent job stealing entry passes to the post + steals off post double teams. AU also does a good job of disrupting passing lanes/cutters. AU does not pull JJ Frazier houdini steals, no one player individually is going to rack up steals

Which I'm not sure how you can come out with "Overrated" after 10+ pt wins @TN, Arkansas, Ole Miss
The most interesting part is Auburn's two best offensive players, Bryce Brown/Mustapha Heron are in "slumps" shooting well below FG% (Heron) and 3FG% (Heron + Brown)

43 points in total at half... it's going the wrong way now quickly... that whole managing turnovers thing.

Worst defensive 3 minutes we’ve had all year. 4 straight possessions of layups or dunks
Just kidding, 5

God fricking Dammit... can we settle the eff down and just run our offense? We're playing half arse transition basketball but not getting any sort of numbers advantage...
