I just dont' know what the committee would see in us aside from "good losses". We have zero signature wins on the year. Our 2 best wins are probably vanderbilt, who is about the same RPI as us but has just gotten hot, and tech who is also roughly the same RPI as us. We don't have any to really hang our hat on. I guess we don't have any truly horrific losses, but we're just kinda average as grits as far as our resume. Ok amount of wins, no great wins, no bad losses. Not sure if that is gonna cut it. We also are going to be about .500 in conference play in a year that the SEC isn't all that great top to bottom.
Don't get me wrong, I want us to win every game we play and would be giddy if we make the tourney, I just don't know how a committee can look at us and deem us worthy.

Sometimes that's all it takes to have a shot, especially in a year where the middle of the pack is pretty average. Avoid horrible losses, play a strong schedule, and go deep in your conference tournament. It also helps to have exciting players and JJ plays in our favor.

I checked out after the road loss to UK. Partially from being sick of heart breaking losses but mainly due to having a newborn
How in the hell do we have a shot at the tourney?

I mean, we really don't. We'd have to win out and then make a fairly deep run in the SEC Tournament.
Thing is, no one in the SEC is really standing out right now so a deep run isn't out of the question. It's just good to manage expectations, as we're used to doing already living in this state.

Yeah, certainly this is why I said it would take the 2 wins over Arkansas to make a good case. Unfortunately, that might put us in a similar boat to last year (3x wins over South Carolina), where beating Arky twice instead of benefiting us ends up taking us both out of the tournament.

I'd say top to bottom, the SEC is actually better this year than it has been in years past. You've got pretty solid teams in UK, UF, USC, and Arkansas... the middle tier with us, Alabama, Vandy... but other than LSU, I'm not sure you've got a lot of teams that would be considered terrible.
The reality in my opinion, is a tournament bid or not likely doesn't change the fact that we're almost definitely having one more year of Fox unless he decides to leave us for K-state or somewhere else. Would love to see this team get a chance in the dance. I don't have any high hopes that they'd go far or anything, but would be nice to send JJ out on a high note, also extending the season might get Yante back?
I'm definitely with you... trying to piece together a compelling case to take us is more reliant on the committee saying "well, we probably should have taken them last year... they're in the same spot this year... meh... the pool sucks. Dawgs are in... 13 seed. Done."

The other thing is we need all of the favorites to win the small conference tournaments

I think we are a Tv friendly team with an exciting little guy and hopefully Maten... I think that means something to the committee.

Fake News...Yante is coming back and if we beat Auburn tonight and upset Arky we are in unless we lose our first SEC tourney game.
We are three wins away from the tourney and we have a good chance in 2 of the next 3. The fourth game from now we will have Yante back.

Not to mention when we've been on National TV we've played pretty well.

Definitely this. That shite can throw off everyone's projections... But to be fair, every bubble team needs this.

Prior to playing Arkansas? I haven't seen a timeline on his return, just that he *wouldn't* return prior to the end of the regular season... Obviously would love to have him back for the SEC Tournament to make a run.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment here man... It's *possible*... that whole first four out thing isn't exactly pure science. Our resume isn't ideal. As WG said, the best you can say about it is that we played good teams closely... but quality wins just aren't there.
ETA: For what it's worth, this is the only mention I'd seen regarding Maten's return in the last couple of days from yesterday (article has been taken down but google cache had it)
quote:
Coach Mark Fox said on his radio show that Maten (knee) is "nowhere close" to returning to the floor, Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald reports.
It was reported last week that Maten would likely miss the remainder of the regular season at minimum after suffering a Grade 2 MCL sprain against Kentucky. With Fox's comments Monday, it appears that the initial timeline is still in play, making him doubtful to return for either of Georgia's remaining two games before the SEC Tournament. Fox specified that Maten's mobility, particularly his lateral mobility, it too limited at this time to have a truly clear picture as to when he might be able to return.

Especially the small conferences that have a powerhouse team good enough to get in as an at large. For instance, Gonzaga or St. Mary's needs to win the WCC. Wichita State or Illinois State needs to win the MVC tourney.

Glorious... you are a wonderful addition to this board. We are all now better and wiser people for having been in the presence of your wit...

And any glimmer of tournament hopes are dying out like a wet fart tonight.

Expected a better sense of urgency than we're seeing so far. Hope we wake up soon.
