That's been the expectation maybe once or twice in my lifetime so I definitely wouldn't go that far. Our roster top to bottom is as good as it's been in maybe 20 years and I love what Mike White's doing so I expect to see improvement. Exactly how much improvement is hard to say...based on what we've seen in the last decade it seems that simply making the NIT would be a nice step forward. I guess I'll set my expectations at that, and anythign more would be a huge bonus. Our OOC schedule this year is ridiculous so we're not going to be able to pad our win total.

definitely not thinking that. there's zero reason to set myself up for disappointment for a basketball season, so im not going to

i think my expectation would be to actually belong in bubble conversations at any point.

I’m not gonna say tournament or bust.

Not at least getting a home NIT game would be mildly disappointing though.

Definitely need to see improvement overall, because the roster is better.

Really excited about the team he put together. I think we should definitely be a bubble team looking at the schedule and our talent. However, wouldn’t be surprised if we were a solid NIT or a solid 10 seed….just going to enjoy this ride and look for some serious improvement over the last 10 years

So is it going to be one of those, our record is worse but our team is improving years? Id sign up for the NIT right now if possible.

I hate the new age college basketball. I was never as diehard as football, but now I doubt I could name more than two players on the team because of transfers and what not.

Who are the players to watch. Is the Rahim guy still here?

im with you 100% and i dont care if it makes me an old loser (im 31 so im not quite there yet).

we have had a completely new team something like 5 years in a row. that's not an exaggeration. it is objectively less fun to follow.

jabri abdur rahim, justin hill, moncrieffe, and frank anselem are i think our only 4 returners. all 4 of those did NOT start with us. maybe only 2 of them will be legit contributors if we are any good.

it's a huge pain in the arse IMO. we don't have a choice, though.

if you become a good program, you can get a little more stability, but even the most consistently good team in the country that i do also follow a bit (kansas, obviously) has way, way less roster consistency than they used to.

Our conference schedule is brutal AF too. This is by far one of the toughest schedules in my lifetime.

One of the podcasts I’ll listen to sometime presented an interesting hypothetical. Would you rather win regular season lose first round SEC tournament and play in NIT? Or win SEC tournament and make bracket? I’ll say making NIT almost ensures a bracket spot next season in most cases. Not always. But losing in first round of NCAA tournament means nothing but making a deep NIT run would be a great step in the right direction.

So in short, your question is would you rather play in the ncaa tournament or the NIT?

Yeah but lost first round of NCAA and make a deep run/win NIT.

For our program prestige I would take winning a NIT title over a first round exit IF we are guaranteed to make the NCAA tourney the next year.

I think a NIT title would be cool, but obviously the big tourney is the one that matters most.

Would kind of be funny if we just became a program that just dominated the NIT on a yearly basis.

Yeah it seems like the winner of NIT will roll into the following season with them at least making the NCAA Tournament. Like Xavier and Texas A&M played in NIT championship and both made tournament the following season.
Making the NCAA tournament is the reason you play the whole season but getting my hopes up for a deep run to just get bounced in the first round would suck.
I think we are moving in the right direction and it’ll be interesting to see how they play. Schedule does look rough though.

As someone who follows Uga basketball more than most, the 08 SECCG run was the most fun I've ever had watching this team

Win total doesn’t matter as much as it used to. A good OOC schedule will help with KenPom and all the fun SOS stuff that the tournament committee uses now. You win a couple tough OOC games and it’s way better than beating up on cupcakes.

yah, the '08 run was unreal. That team looked like they could not be beat. Felton had us clicking. I think we would have done well the next season but we had a few key players get kicked off the team. I would think the realistic goal is the NIT. Year 3 we should start expecting the NCAA's and if we don't make it by year 4 then you start evaluating if he's the right guy. Just my opinion.
