Not that anyone in the SEC West is a gimmie series, but I think it’s very fortunate our 3 teams missed this year are Arkansas, LSU and Auburn. Two top 5 teams and another probably top 15 team

Pitching is definitely gonna cost us some games/series. Dawgs lead Iowa 8-5 through 7.

At least we get to “ease” into the SEC schedule with Kentucky.
Which has a good team (probably the best we’ve faced all year) but one of the lower ranked in SEC. Shits about to get real for our pitchers and some of our hitters…This post was edited on 3/12/24 at 9:10 pm

Hopefully the pitching gets better. On the road @ UK will be tough imo. But with Condon, Goldstein, etc we’ll get ours too.

- This schedule actually sets up really well on the front end. We will be challenged by Bama and Tennessee but it’s a good split of home/away series against teams we can hang with. Back end is its usual murderers row but I like having Vandy and Florida in Athens
- Optimistically, I could see us sitting at 32-8 heading into the Clemson, A&M, Vandy, etc stretch which gives us a lot of wiggle room to drop a couple of those series and still be in great shape for a tourney bid. Realistically, we might be closer to 30-10 which is still a good place to be.

Basically, if you weren’t well thought of by them in January then you’re not getting benefit of the doubt until conference play when other teams start losing. Meanwhile Florida can drop 6 games and remain top 10.

I’m speaking more year to year. Every season, college baseball rankings are a beauty pageant until you’re halfway through your conference slate. If you’re actually good but not well thought of, it’s usually because they didn’t think to stan for your preseason and jumping on your bandwagon now means having to back off another team. If you’re still ranked despite a bad start, it’s because they want to hold out as long as they can to justify the hype they gave you.
Our schedule to this point has been a relative cakewalk, to be sure. So I’d temper expectations; we aren’t going to moonshot our way to 50 wins against this league. However, baseball is also baseball. Florida is better than their record indicates but they’ve still dropped 6 games. Clemson’s only loss was a blowout to KSU. Mizzou has looked like hot garbage but then just beat a red hot Kansas squad on the road. Making it to 17-1 regardless of competition is nothing to sneeze at.
