Nebraska is making a coaching change....

Florida is making a change.....

We lost to both the last time we played them, and due in part at least to a lack of motivation and proper preparation.

I am fully aware that Mark Richt has UGA playing at a higher level than we have ever been at before and I would hate to see him fired BUT expectations at UGA are just not the same as they are elsewhere. I also do not expect us to get significantly better any time soon. I think Richt leaves of his own accord in 3-5 years without another SEC title, probably not even a SEC east title, despite this side of the conference being as bad as the teams in it have been in my lifetime (with the exception of missourri who is probably better than they have ever been), and definitely not having made it to the NCAA playoffs. Richt is good, he is better than we have ever had, but he simply is not in that class and will not be at this stage of his career.

Bashing Rich is stating he is the best coach we have ever had? Really?

I am merely facing what I see as reality...Mark Richt is the best we have ever had, and while that is great he isn't in the same league annually as they top 5 or 6 coaches in the nation. We aren't an elite program. We never have been. What we once were was a program that would win a game every once in a while we had no business winning. I think that is much harder in the game today than it was in the past....coaching is MUUUUUUUCCCCHHHH better. We just don't do this much anymore, and in fact we lose a good many games we have no business losing. It is what it is....but pretending that it is going to change next year or the year after or the year after is just wishful thinking. What will change is Richt will leave in a few years and we will sink even further into mediocrity. Hope will spring eternal but reality is that we do not have the fan base and the expectations that elite programs have. It is still great to be a Georgia Bulldog....and by god come next August I will buy into another national title run as I have every August since 1980....but all of us knows deep down that it just ain't happening....and when it does happen it will come out of left field (as 1980 did) and no one will see it coming because if there is any hint of it coming the pressure will be too much and the bed linens will be ruint!

Since we already have several threads saying essentially the same thing, is there a reason you felt we needed just one more?

Yeah, that was my point. Rephrase and start a new thread. And saying that Richt won't even win an SEC title in the next 5 years is a form of bashing. With the improvements we have made on the staff and the current recruiting, I see a Natty soon.

Done with this one.

The short answer is we simply don't know what the future might bring. You could be right on. My guess is Richt will be at UGA as long as he wants to be since I believe our admins see Mark as a near ideal HC in terms of how he represents UGA. He might well decide to leave on his own within your 5 year projection but I think it will be longer because Richt is simply not old enough to retire in that time frame and I think he wants to retire at Georgia.

I'm a bit more optimistic about his future accomplishments especially due to the state of the SEC East. Georgia is definitely the best team in East in terms of recruiting potential and stability but lack of defense has held back our teams for a long time. And now that we have Pruitt, I actually have some level confidence that our defense will improve. If Richt could just get his in-game shite together, we might actually have a chance of winning something.

I think the difference in those situations is that Nebraska thought Pellini had hit his ceiling as a coach at Nebraska...basically maxing out at 9 win seasons. We don't even need to dive into the Florida situation. The difference with Richt is that he has proven that he can win and consistently give us chances year in and year out to contend for SEC championships. Pellini really wasn't moving Nebraska much higher than 9-4 seasons. We all know Richt's accomplishments so I will not go into it and yes I think that we should expect a chance at an SEC championship every single year and I think Richt gives us a good chance at the helm. Was this year somewhat disappointing? Well yeah losing three games we should have won was pretty dumb but many thought this year as a rebuilding year so I think that should be put into perspective.

Think about this...If We do play Nebraska again...That means we share similarities that get us to the same kind of game year in and year out. Nebraska just fired their coach. What have we done?
