How many time zones are covered by the United States and its territories? This does not include small islands that are uninhabited or have restricted access.

Close. The answer is 9. Other than the 4 continental zones, Puerto Rico is on Atlantic Time, mainland Alaska is on Alaska Time, Hawai’i and some Aleutian Islands have their own zone, American Samoa has its own zone, and Guam and the NMI share a zone.
