I just realized how dangerously thin/inexperienced we are across the DL.

I count 8 scholarship DL and that's if Atkins stays over on that side of the ball:

DE (SR) Garrison Smith -- 10 career starts and the only one among the group w/ starting experience

DE Ray Drew (JR) -- 31 career tackles, 3.5 career TFL, 0.5 sack...time for a break out year

NT Jonathon Taylor (RS FR) -- coming off a RS season, never played a down...dare I say this kid could make or break the D next season?

DE/NT Mike Thornton (RS JR) -- participated in 21 career games, 1 tackle. tic toc

DE Sterling Bailey (RS SO) -- 1 career tackle in 3 career games

NT Chris Mayes (RS SO) -- just coming in from JUCO, but an early enrollee and a guy we stuck with for a couple years and a guy who took a RS while in JUCO for us

DE John Atkins (FR?) -- just coming out of Hargrave, this guy is the sleeper of the group IMO, former Under Armour All-American

NT DeAndre "Moose" Johnson (FR) -- getting the shirt

Toby Johnson, come on down

You left out James DeLoach 6'3 270 at the start of last season. He will be well over 280 when the season start. He will be a good one

Didn't include him b/c he's still listed as an OLB, but given the need and his size (didn't know he was THAT big), I could definitely see him w/ his hand on the ground.

Davin Bellamy weighs 256ish so if he packed on 20 lbs he could also wind up at end.

You guys have got to be frickn kiddn me. Lets plug in the holes..........
NT Taylor and Chris Mayes both over 6'4 315 JT is over 330. Stripling in for JJ. Use your resources to get to know Stripling's potential. Jenkins on the other side. Smith and Drew at DE with Bailey and Thorton at #2.And ummm......I don't think at 6'5 and a heavy hitter JHC will lose the battles that Rambo lost last season. MAN UP

Yes, but there's talk of him out growing the position and moving to DE.

Because it's a 3-4, you can count pretty much any of our numerous linebackers over 240 pounds as a Defensive Line position.

ETA:

Which means we've got 7 guys over 300#'s for 3 positions.

Adams would have been huge addition, but I think those 7 guys can get it done.

MUST have no less than 10 300 pounders in the next recruiting class, both sides of the ball, or we will be Furman in 2014.

The talent has fallen off a bit but I think lessons were learned and these guys play as a unit and that my friends is exactly what will make or break it this year. They need to be together like a fat chicks thighs after a doughnut binge!

Fallen off Look at the projected rotation and their ratings coming out of high school. The D is loaded highly rated recruits for this year. Not that it matters but I dont see a 3* anywhere projected in the 2 deep with the exception of maybe at safety.

Agreed, especially on the DLine.

How many guys do we need for a 3-4? 7 is plenty to cover 3 spots.

Hell... when we go to a nickel look, we only have 2 defensive tackles. 7 guys is more than enough.

I'm optimistic about the DL. We're not relying on a bunch of kids just out of high school. We'll be ready.

im thinking most are rs frosh but there are the jucos and most of what i was thinking was at the linebackers it took a small dip but i forget about herrera coming back and jhc stepping in probably for tree. herrera needs to work on lateral movement and pass coverage but he is anchored to the ground and i think will be the premier guy for run stopping this year. and in the secondary just worried about gelling early on since it sometimes takes a few live gmes to adjust and build the trust amongst each other. the talent is there but do we have a case of calling soft again? hopefully swann takes the leader roll and runs with it.heres to high hopes on these guys coming together like a bowl of cherry jello
