Most of those QB runs were not QB runs first. He was reading a key player, usually the End. If that key player crashes to the RB, then the QB keeps it. If defenses have to respect the QB keep and run, then there is one less person to defend the RB run and they do not have to block him. The option play they ran (not sure if it was a spread or Speed option) is a situation where the QB is expected to keep /run with more frequency.
I assume the hope is that defenses have to respect the QB run and it takes at least 1 player out of the play and limits the stunts the opposing D can do to an extent. Bottom line, I think Smart will be tickled if 14 never runs the ball, but does affect how the defense plays us.

I wanna see the team stop using so many rotations on offense

That is exactly what you're supposed to do in these cupcake games. You figure out you depth chart and rotations. You don't want to trying to figure that out in Knoxville.

You’d like to think the plan is to load up on QB runs against Marshall and Austin Peay to give opponents lots of tape to study and then work more passing and play action once we get in the meat of the schedule against SEC defenses.

I think we definitely wanted to show other defenses we are not afraid to let the QB keep it this year and that he can be effective when he does.

Against Marshall I saw a lot of good on both sides of the ball. I still don't know hoe the team will look against real good competition. The game in Knoxville will tell me what I need to know. The Vols look real.

Syracuse lost an assload of players from last season's team that won a lot of 1-score games.

Also, UTK's secondary is already depleted and they are the weak link of the team as it is.
