Oakland Cemetery is a pretty cool place to visit if you're in to the history of the ciy.

Resting place of Bobby Jones,Margrett Mitchill,Civil War Soldiers and most of the Mayors. You can also get some good food @ Six Feet Under across the street after you're done.

What's that run, about $26?

I take my family of 6 to The Varsity and it hits over $70 easily (my oldest is 10. These aren't teenager years. This is Happy Meal for all but the oldest).

If I'm going to spend $70, there are a lot of better ways to do it (off the top of my head, I'd rather eat Chick Fil A, Waffle House, Ryans even... LOL)

Not sure...but I only make it there once or twice a year so its no big deal.

I grew up eating it in Athens and it was the first restaurant I remember where they had TV's. Their chili for dogs should be in some hall of fame somewhere. Its fine if you stay away....shorter line for me.

Did you ever go to Charlie Williams Pinecrest Lodge? If so, did you like it? Just curious....

I did. I definitely enjoyed it, but not sure of the correlation to "The Greasy V"?

There are restaurants....and then there are icons. Charlie Williams and the V are the latter. Some people just want to be contrarian....

Sure...its easy now with burger joints and fast food on every corner to make fun of the V....but back in the day it was unique.

I see. For the record, I don't care for fast food burgers, either. I did recently have an "artisan" burger at Wendy's that looked amazingly JUST LIKE the picture. It were guud. That's been the only time that's happened, though, and they don't even have that burger now.

Established in 1928. What are you? About 100 years old?

What's unique about selling a can of chili for $4.19 that tastes about as cheap as anything you will find at the grocery store?

Varsity sucks. It's a long line for horrible food that's terrible for you. I'd rather sit down somewhere nearby and get a better burger at the Vortex or something like that.

I'd think if he was counting connecting flights we'd be better than 4th.

Interesting to wonder what he's referencing though.

ETA: Also things like the braves and MOTHAfrickIN IKEA bring lots of day trippers/weekenders from our neighboring states.

Hell...I didn't say I was there at the founding. My dad tells stories though about racial riots at the Athens V in the the 60's though...you don't have to go back to '28 for icon status.

Cmon man...you don't buy a can of Varsity chili. If you take a picture of the Mona Lisa and blow it up to hang on your wall at home, do you expect it to look the same?

You guys would probably prefer a 2014 Accord over a '58 Vette because the ride is smoother, it handles better and manual steering is just too tough. It's unhealthy???? Grow a pair for Christ's sake.

How far has the decay spread to where I'm having to defend the Varsity on GA sports board?

I think a small part of my soul died today......

Not a fan of the Varsity. It's good for nostalgia or whatever but the food isn't that good, especially for the price.

Food is sloppy, but that is okay if the occasion is right. Sometimes you need a modest burger and fries (or rings).

Also interesting fact is it sells more Coca Cola than any other individual merchant in the world. It holds a special place in my heart but I hold the same reservations about its food quality as all of yall.

I went to GT and lived less than a 1/4 mile from it for 2 years of my life, and less than a mile for 4 years, and I didn't get drawn to it much. But I also am not for hating on it

That's a great analogy because that's about what the chili tastes like.

It's not the worst food in the world.
But it sure isn't anywhere close to the iconic status that everyone makes it out to be.

If I'm going to rant about how great something cheap and fast is, it's probably going to be Chick Fil A.

Well he is an Atlanta mayor. That is kind of a prerequisite for the job.
