After this iron bowl?

Don't go by the Iron Bowl. HUGE rivalry game. Yes, so is GT, but Auburn is still a pretty decent team and they play tough against Alabama when they have a decent team.

That said I think we can beat them by 10+ points. Saban is a different animal and can usually keep it pretty close. I don't see it being more than a 10 point game, but I hope we take them out by 2-3 TDs. I just don't see it, though.

Looks like Bama's top RB is questionable for the game:

quote:

Alabama tailback Brian Robinson Jr. has a pulled muscle that makes his status for the Southeastern Conference Championship Game against No. 1 Georgia uncertain.

No. 4 Alabama’s coach Nick Saban said Sunday that Robinson sustained a “lower body pulled muscle” in Saturday’s four-overtime victory over Auburn. Robinson was holding his left leg on the ground after a 37-yard carry in the fourth quarter of the 24-22 Iron Bowl win.

“We’ll just kind of see how he progresses during the course of the week and see where he’s at,” Saban said. “I can’t tell you any more than that right now.”

Now, is that just gamesmanship ahead of the SECCG, and Robinson will be fine? Only time will tell, I guess.

I'm not going to feel comfortable with anything less than a 3+ score lead with less than 5 mins to go in the game.

Other than some idea that we have a mental block about Alabama (which I don't think is true anymore - if it ever was), there's nothing to indicate that this should be a huge struggle.

Alabama's offensive line has had problems all year and they've eeked out very close games against several teams. They're also thin at RB and their defense is way off from their usual standards. Looking at how their OL struggled against Auburn's front, not sure why it would be different against UGA. I could see not just a win but even a big win...unless Saban pulls some kind of coaching voodoo on Smart.

Once bitten twice shy. Or should it be twice bitten....?

It's smart not to get too comfortable until the clock runs out. I thought Auburn had Alabama last Saturday.

I can't even blame it on CMRPTSD, at this point, either. We've seen them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat a couple of heartbreaking times, now.

I'll believe the win when I see the win.

I do believe there can be a mental block. It doesn't mean it can't be overcome, but I can remember having a mental block against a particular team when I was in high school. It can be overcome, but it takes more work.

You have a mental block? This is exactly what I mean when I say mental block. the feeling that something could go wrong...either fluke, or coaching voodoo.

Idk, I was pretty shocked but this year's outcome. People always say AU plays bama tough in JHS but that's generally when AU has a forimdable team of their own (13, 17, 19, etc). AU is not a very good team this year, and they got even less good when nix went down. Finley is not a very good QB at all. We roasted AU up and down the field and barely gave them anything and that was with themj being full strength on offense. That game said a looooot more about bama to me than it did about AU. Bama is smiply not a very good football team. Coming down the back streth of the season they were in a fight in the 4th quarter against tennessee at home, easily could have lost to LSu at home and only pulled it out in the final minute, let Arkansas practically score at will at home, and needed multiple ots on the road to beat au.

If we lose to this Alabama team, then we are NOT who I thought we were.

Alabama is bad and is coming off 2 very tough and physical games where opponents had them on the ropes.

We have been resting starters for the last 2 games for 2 qrts +.

We have the talent and are getting healthy.

NO Excuses this year.

This

We were trolled for weeks over our 3 offensive points vs. Clemson, but Alabama's "vaunted" offense is only able to get 3 points against Auburn for the entire game, up until they needed 1 touchdown to send it to OT.

Alabama has shown us who they are this year.

Cross-compare all our common opponents, their loss to A&M, and even LSU looking like they had a pulse against them.

If Georgia plays its game, we pass this test with flying colors.

Bama is a ball bounce or 2 away from having 4 losses this year, which is insane. They are still scary becuase of the sheer amount of talent they have along wiht having the best HC of all time, but this is probably the worst overall product they've fielded since 2007.

The biggest thing that worries me is a similar situation to 2017 in that they are coasting through with inferior starters but still winning, and are going to eventually get to a point fo no return and play some of the younger, better guys and we won't handle it well. If they continue to play the OL and some of the secondary guys they have been we should do very well.

This is true, but in watching the game, Auburn looked more focused and just....better. Their pass rush was fierce. I mean, it could be because Alabama is not nearly as good. Or it could be because their players just wanted it more and Alabama took them lightly.

My personal opinion? I kind of lean that the Alabama coaching staff did some preparation for us (tiny bit) during the week and took Auburn lightly, thinking they could beat Auburn easily and the SECCG would be the way to the playoffs for them.

True, but it wasn't Auburn's offense that gave Alabama problems. It was their defense. Finley did not give them fits....nor did Tank, really.

Not saying you are wrong and I am right. It depends on how you look at the game, really. We will know more about it this Saturday.

Believe me.....I hope you are right and I am wrong. I hope we run a truck on them. I tend to take a bit more of a negative look on games. When I played it's how I kept an edge. I prepared as if the other team was really, really good. I was nervous before all of our games except one, and that team was sooooo bad, I just couldn't take them seriously no matter how much I tried.
