For the 2025 class signing in a few days.

Does anyone remember a few days ago when UGA fans were saying Schumann was a scrub?

One thing's for sure. This defense has looked like a steaming pile too many times this season. I believe coaching is at least part of the problem. Same on offense.

Last year the line and the second level were the issue. This year it’s the backend, very young and at times, horrible! One player in particular has no business being on the field, and was picked on all game vs tech.
If you recall last year UGA couldn’t stop the run, get pressure, etc.. This year they can’t defend a pass, setting picks on themselves, and at times completely out of position. I personally think is gonna be Donte’s one and only year here..

Talent on defense has not been the issue for Kirby's teams.
How many 5 start commits do we have for the offense?

Still really talented but this playing 5-8 yards off the receiver on every 2nd or 3rd and long thing is driving me up a wall. It obviously hasn’t helped them not get burned by the deep ball so might as well play press or bump more then.

Counterpoint: we have a ton of 5*s currently on defense and have wildly underperformed.

I don’t think it’s all Schumann’s fault, but he’s enjoyed a free ride from criticism because he’s Kirby’s protege. I understand that the DL talent has dropped off from 2021/2022, but there’s enough left in the two deep to be way better consistently than this defense is.

Me too.. is that the plan? Is it hopes that the line and linebackers are getting home? Only game this year I’ve noticed that the secondary is playing up is the Texas game..
I think the first 1/2 of the bama game it was more zone, we saw what happened! Second half was man, and we saw what happened!
The talent is there, it’s just very young, I think they are worried about giving up the “explosive” play, and would rather give up the 5-10 yards. It’s like dying by 1,000 paper cuts!

What has driven me insane is our apparent tendency to not even bother tackling the ball carrier until they've already reached the line to gain.

Historically, zone works better than man with a QB that scrambles well. Man coverage typically ends up with huge voids allowing a good running QB like Bamas to gash you.

There are two basic man coverages, press and off. We play more off man it seems.
We also play man underneath one or two deep safeties.

Just because you are 8 yards off the ball in man at the los, does not mean you are giving up the farm. You make some routes easier and some harder.

In general, I don’t think we have a huge issues with D scheme. Execution and tackling are where we need to improve.
The offense needs to also help by getting more first downs and taking the opposing team off schedule.

Offense isn't recruiting nearly as well and that concerns me a lot.
