coming home between Dacula and Auburn there was a pickup truck that had left the road and somehow ended up windshield area crushed into a big tree. police and ambulances were there but didn't seem in a particular hurry. as i went past you could see blankets spread across the front seat. this vehicle was destroyed and I'm not sure how they're going to get it down and removed. This was an unexpected thing to see and was horrific.

I literally JUST passed this. What time did you go by? No ambulances now and looked fresh, only because there was no traffic leading up to it, then suddenly there’s a cop and a backup begins.
This is what happens when you take a top-heavy vehicle, jack it up and then speed around corners.

Been a long time since I’ve been past a wreck with sheets covering the dead. Last one was similar to what you describe. Pickup truck had left the road and hit a tree.
First time I saw something like this I was 14-15 yes old 75 south at Delk road. Red Honda Accord going north crashEd and came over the wall into south bound lanes. There were big sheets and very small ones covering the bits and pieces. I’ll never forget the hand I saw sticking out from under one sheet.

It’s a shame. God bless their family/families. I can only hope that it was no more than one.
I didn’t see it happen, but read a detailed account of one of the witnesses who first rushed the scene, but the one that jarred me the most was when my 12 year old son was in 1st grade. A little girl in his class was being driven home after school by her grandmother. She was on 316 and turned in front of a big rig headed toward Bethlehem on Hwy 11. Apparently didn’t see the truck because of the sun in her eyes. It slammed her car full speed and ejected the little girl from the car right in the middle of the intersection. Dead in an instant. I believe the grandmother survived, but I can’t imagine how she carries that weight today. It tore my son up. He still has moments where he remembers her and breaks up. Terrible thing.

316 needs to be a limited access highway from 85 to 10 Loop. Period.
Make access roads that run parallel and cross over/under, with exits, etc. They are doing this at hwy81 at 316 now, but they need to do it at every*single*intersection.
Stop lights and traditional medians and cut-throughs, not gonna cut it. This should have been done 20 years ago.
People are going to keep dying until this is done.
I have narrowly missed numerous deaths on 316, particularly in the afternoon, commuting from Athens/ATL.
There came a point about 7 years ago I just stopped driving 316 altogether, and drove up 85 to Jefferson and came down to Athens from the North. More miles, but about the same time, and less deathy.

I was the only person with a guy who was clinging to life until the emergency vehicles showed up about 8 minutes after I called 911.
This was 3 years ago about 6:30 in the morning when I was driving down a back road to Palmetto for a golf tournament. I saw headlights approaching from about 1/2 mile away and then nothing but sparks flying. When I got about 1/3 mile I started to slow down to see if I could see anyone wrecked. There was an older model 4Runner completely destroyed and upside down about 20 yards off the road with the headlights on, dust all around in a cloud, and debris all over the place.
I pulled over and got out and went to the vehicle and looked in prepared to see a person but the vehicle was empty. Then I looked over about 30 yards to the right and saw a body. It was quiet except for the hiss of the car engine and my heart was pounding knowing that I was the only one there and what I was about to experience. When I got close I could see that he was lying on his stomach and his face had blood coming out of his ears and nose. His leg was completely broken and bent all the way to one side. His breathing was instinctive and just violent up and down motions of his torso. He was unconscious.
I called 911 and of course they are asking me where I was at exactly but I had no idea of the closest cross road. I had to hang up and look at google maps to determine that and the called back. There were several cars that came by slowly in the 8 minutes I was alone and nobody stopped. One guy even rolled down his window and I said “man can you please stop and help me until the police or fire dept gets here?” He said okay and then drove on away. I just went back and knelt down and held grabbed his hand and hoped he was hearing my voice. He never opened his eyes or acknowledged anything. Just labored breathing that came out as wheezing sounds.
The police got there first followed quickly by fire and paramedics. One paramedic told me that there was little hope that the guy would make it as the life flight showed up. It shook me up for a while after that.

Spent years as a traffic unit in Augusta. I loved law enforcement but don’t miss see that stuff.

No. I searched the local papers online for the next couple of days and didn’t see anything.

By the midpoint of my senior year, I had started doing this myself on trips to Atlanta.

That stretch up 85 above Hamilton mill in Jackson county is one of the most deadly in the nation.

That stuff is hard to look at. I watch some college kid miss the exit to College Station Road, swerve, flip his car, and hit a tree. When I pulled up, he fell out of the car, blood gushing from his mouth and ears. No less than 10 people pulled over to help while we waited until the paramedics arrived.

although I agree with you, 316 had nothing to do with this accident. This was high speed on a country road.

Worst one I ever saw was going home at 3AM on a Saturday night in Savannah where I grew up.
Came around a curve and saw a car upside down in a yard. Slammed on the brakes and rushed over to help. Found the driver dead in the street as the back of his head hit the asphalt when he was ejected. You could smell the Jack Daniels 50 feet from the wrecked car.
Worst part was the driver was a guy I played baseball and graduated high school with as a kid. He was just 19.

Saw a kid that got ran over by a semi once out in front of our shop. Poor kid had to be pressure washed off the asphalt.

Came upon a Tbone accident at an intersection where the sun was in one of the drivers eyes and he ran a stop sign. Driver dead in the seat, a man was in the back seat giving cpr to the back passenger on the driver side, 2 right hand passengers out on the ground rolling in pain and screaming. Every time I go through that intersection I see those folks in my mind.

Coming back from Jax on Sunday on Hwy 15 just below Sparta there was a car on its top in the ditch. Ambulance there and a bunch of cars stopped. Some kids sitting on the ground beside the road. I've searched the newspapers for any info about the accident but haven't found anything.

Well so much for Spunky's deer lease this year. Might as well have dropped an oil tanker full of coyote glands.
