First order of business is actually trying to talk to them, explain it damages your grass, which is expensive to maintain and get some 'no trespassing' signs. Also, when you talk to them, make it clear you are telling them that riding the quad through your yard is trespassing.

Next, is the dog actually a Pit? I would bet it isn't. Also, you didn't say, but is it actually aggressive? If it is really a pit and these people aren't trying to fight the dog, I'd would again bet that it isn't aggressive. Or does it just get angry when you go beating on it with a broom? I mean, shoot the people, but the dog is probably just looking for warm spot to lay in the sun. They are the best breed in the world (if that is what it is) when trained right, no reason to kill/hurt the dog because the owners suck, if it isn't "broken" yet. Sorry for that, but I hate the whole "OMG!! A pit! *jumps on chair* Somebody step on it and kill it, EEEEEEEKKKKK!!!" reaction people have to probably the naturally sweetest, most loving breed of dog on the planet because of inexcusable media bias, stupid movies and idiot thugs.

Back to the 'necks: Does you HOA allow you to and can you afford to put up a nice fence? A nice new little picket fence or something should be enough to get the message across. If they were to run through it, that would be vandalism and you could probably just go shoot at them at that point, but having them arrested and force to pay for the damage would be the better way to go. Make them pay for any damages to the grass as well.

If it gets to the point you need to start with the barb wire, etc. Caltrop are the way to go. You could just take some sheet steel, etc and something like tin snips and cut out little shapes to bend into a caltrop to slice their tires, but I prefer another method. Take some small gauge steel tubing, cut into 4 inch lengths or so, bend at an angle and weld the inside of two bends together so that it will stand with one point always straight up. Grind down all four points so they are sharp and then when the four wheeler runs over them, it will puncture the tire and the hollow tubing will ensure the air runs out very quickly, not blocking the air flow and leaves a good sized hole in the tire.

After they do that a few times, they may not know it was you, but they'll probably just stop riding those trails or at least coming in that way. Or just stop riding because they can't afford any more new tires.

Not sure on the local law where you live, but as a general rule:

1. Contact the city and get permission to post "No Trespassing" signs. It's a stupid step, but it will ultimately be helpful, should you have to go to court over it.

2. Agree with the videotaping, if possible. Document every intrusion, regardless - date, time, physical description, everything. Document any resulting damage, too.

3. Contact your homeowner's insurance company - let them know what is happening. If one of the goons does get hurt on your property, they'll be forewarned of it.

4. Get a restraining order barring them from entering your property.

Long term: you can always sue and/or press criminal charges. Of course, you'll then have to deal with people who hate you, so...it might just be easier to put in a fence.

Whatever you do, don't do anything like setting up booby traps. From a legal standpoint, those are bad, bad news for you.

If it's not legal to have razor wire up, it would also probably be illegal to buy used rusty barb wire and put it slightly further up his trail but off your property, so that there was nothing physical to tie its presence to you. rusty wire online.

Very risky to do stuff like that. The problem is that it presents a threat to everybody, so it could very easily lead to negligence charges, void homeowner's insurance, etc. Regular fencing like pickets, palisades, or chain link are much safer options.

Also, putting up stuff like razor wire can lead to trouble with the HOA, if you have one.

Do NOT set traps or razor wire or barbed wire. But, if you have a water drainage problem at the area where this butthead is entering your property,(or if you think you might someday have a drainage problem)here is how to solve this drainage problem.
Dig a trench about 6 inches deep and one foot wide across the entire stretch just inside your property line (and beside the Do Not Enter - No Tresspassing signs. Get some ground cloth and fit it across the drainage trench and stake it in place securely with tent pegs.
Next, take some sod and place across the ground cloth to make your lawn aesthetically pleasing to the neighbors. You should have only one or two drainage issues after this.
As for the dog, get a water blaster, fill it with ammonia or lemon juice, and soak his face a couple of times. He will find another deck to sleep on.

I have no issue killing someone entering my property with bad intent ala robbery. But some hick who rides thru my yard doesn't deserve to meet his maker just for that. Meet my fist possibly but not the other. When I get off of.work tmrw I will.go.back there and try and tak.some.sense into them. Hopefully it works out forntge best
