Yep, I'm not convinced that our team would be doing any better this season had Richt stayed at the helm.

They have a JR QB who has started since he was a freshman, an experienced OL, solid WR group, and an experienced defensive backfield. Their LB's are very young, all freshmen.

All in all, I think things would be the same under Richt right now. Probably would have beat Vandy but we'd have lost to UNC, is how I see it playing out. Could be wrong, but given how things shook out under Richt, that's my belief in our our season would have gone.

The loss to Vandy was inexcusable and is absolutely at the feet of our coaches. As a young HC, you have to hope Kirby can learn from this. We went super conservative against an inferior opponent and then tried to call a cute play with the game on the line. As I said before, I'm going to give Kirby the benefit of the doubt this year while he cuts his teeth but if he's still having these issues in year 3 then the administration needs to start the search for the next HC.

No doubt they get the QB edge and WR edge but we also returned and experienced OL
and defensive backfield (amazing all the lack of talent the folks on here now claim we
nave in this posistion) Miami is far less experienced in the front 7 but BOTH teams
should be dominant next year in this area.

If Kaya comes back next year UM should make a solid top 10 run.I don't see us
being it that posistion until '18 maybe '19.

Bottom line is that both coaches got handed a shite show from their '13 class and
Miami perhaps more so than UGA.

Miami is certainly young there too, but most of our front 7 at any point in time during a game are freshmen and sophomores, so saying that Miami is "far" less experienced is just hyperbole. They're more experienced on the D-Line, we're a little more experienced at LB, I'd call it a wash.

UNC also got handed a TD that didn't actually happen. In a game decided by exactly one TD, that hurts.

Their starting LB's are all Freshman and we have 2 Jr's and 2 Sophmores.
Who exactly are the starting freshman on our front 7?I know Rochester is getting
a lot of playing but not sure if he started yesterday.

Lets just say more experienced but I'd expect big things out of both next year.

We rotate DL so much that it's not necessarily important who is getting the first snap, but there are a lot of times when some combination of Rochester, Clark, David Marshall and Michail Carter are on the field at the same time.

That's the bright side about playing so many young guys, it may be frustrating now but they're getting invaluable game experience that will help us in the next couple of years.

Our young guys on defense are coming along nicely. The defense in general looks pretty solid. Miami looks really good on defense as well; I was hoping we would go and get Diaz instead of Grantham. He's a good coach.

Seriously? We lost to VANDERBILT, and your take away is "Thank goodness Mark Richt lost?"

Hard to say. maybe. maybe not. We will never know, and just because some on here wish it were so does not make it so.

Just think, though. IF he were still here and having a really bad year, we would have just cause to fire him, and might could have gotten a proven HC along the lines of Tom Herman.

An very few if any were as highly recruited as our players.

That's the thing....we don't know, do we? Nobody can say one way or the other for sure. All you can do is "I feel". "I think" "We might"

Not sure why you think North carolina would have beaten us. Richt might not have started Eason to begin, and would have stayed with a run heavy offense. That's what won the game for us.

How about Nicholls? Ole Miss was a blowout worse than Alabama last year and they are currently a .500 team with another 2-3 possible losses. They are not as good as many thought they would be. While we are playing what if...who's fault was Missouri? They're not looking so spiffy, either. How about the close loss to Tennessee at the last second?

I realize we won some of those games...but Richt took heat for getting blown out by Alabama. he took heat for Auburn in 2013, because it was coaches fault they didn't knock the ball down. (Never mind that we misplayed the Hail Mary against Tennessee poorly. Richt took heat for our showing against Georgia Southern (who went to a bowl last year) yet Smart gets a pass for Nicholls?

The hypocrisy on this board is mind boggling. (Not pointed at you, Crispy, so much as those who rail against anybody that would dare criticize Kirby Smart for anything)

No. Just laughing at all the Democrats blaming Bush 8 years after Obama took office. You know. Kind of like blaming Richt because of our showing against Nicholls and Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, and South Carolina, when we have a LOT more talent than all of those except Ole Miss.
