have a buddy moving down to Ft Myers. He said a lot of real estate deals after the hurricanes last year. He took advantage of the high real estate market in Atlanta and sold. Not for me, but I still like parts of Florida.

Congratulations, dude! What all are you planning on building?
My wife likes Quanset houses.
Not sure if I spelled that right. They look like mini airport hangars

My son goes to UNCW, I really like that area of NC, I would probably move there before moving to FL, I think I would miss the changing of the seasons.

Your buddy is lying to you. The empty lots destroyed by the hurricane are going for more than they were before the structures were destroyed. Just like what happened in Mexico Beach where Michael made landfall. Quaint beach house going for $550k was instantly an empty lot going for $900k just for the lot.

Nice, joining the Florida Dawgs club!
My wife and I moved to Sarasota two years ago and it was definitely the best decision we have ever made, absolutely love it down here!

The last time I was in Florida recently, every other commercial on the tv was about supporting HB such n such “to prevent the California-cation of Florida”. Apparently there is a war going on
As a close neighbor, I’m very concerned/interested in how this new Florida superpower thing is going to play out. I’m pulling for the good guys who are currently in control there, but what happens if/when Floridas newfound power status falls into the hands of the bad guys?
Im worried we’re living through the days like when Ronald Reagan was governor of California and it was a solid red state. But then, in only a few decades , California squandered all that was built and became the epicenter for authoritarian leftie communist low iq insanity.
What happens if/when South Georgia and Alabama has a new California attached to it? Do Florifornians think we will allow them to flee here when the insanity begins? Is this how America ends? We’re doomed

Hopefully the need for that is not as close as some say.
We are ultimately working towards being self sufficient though. My wife has been living this way on a tiny city lot. We need more space!!
Mostly trying to take our 3 boys out of the life is easy mindset (they aren't snowflakes at all, but they also don't know about difficulties) and teach them a few life skills and a little bit about hard work.
People keep telling me we should work to give our kids more opportunities than we had or a better life than we had. My eyes are telling me these 3 need to be a bit tougher for what might lie ahead.
My wife and I always valued a city lifestyle. Convenience. Neighborhood community. Opportunities. Over time, we are seeing these as having a negative impact on our boys.
We are going back to the basics.
Went to a rodeo last night. Felt good. Prayer. Laughter. Grit.

Simpler times felt just as difficult I suppose. The range of challenges and the number of them has just grown exponentially.
Trying to close on 5 acres on a nice ridge with 70 acres around it in conservation. Not going full off grid but will have the back up power, water, and fuel systems to manage a while if need be. Bonus 250 degree view after a couple of years if thinning takes place.
Fun fact , GA won’t let you collect rain water to drink but barely regulates where you can drill a hole (your property) or what creek (your property) you pull from. I can pull thousands of gallons from a random hole but can’t store and drink (treated) rain water (and meet code).

That's an EPD regulation and let me assure you, they are focused on much more important things like how erosion disproportionally affects people of color and my dam that's been here since the 1960's has a 24 inch pipe instead of a 36 inch pipe.
Also- today I learned that disproportionally isn't a word, it is disproportionately. You'd think someone as smart as me would have known that already.

You get my vote hands down for Father of the Year
Simultaneously, I will also resist the urge to say “I told you so “ since I preached it from day 1 on here and you thought I was a loon
