I know durden has strong feeling bc I saw it on the movie board, but I'd like some recommendations. I've never been to Helen but me and wife are her for a weekend getaway. We will probably eat lunch and dinner in the main toursity area tmrw, any restaurants y'all recommend?

And yes I know it's touristy and lame and whatever but I'm here so can't turn back. They have a lot of beer though.

I've always had good luck at Paul's. It's been a few years for me, so I'm not sure what's still around. Enjoy it. Helen is pretty interesting for a day or two.

Rent one of the barrel cabins at Unicoi.

My wife and I’s final trip as non-parents was to Unicoi/Helen.

Best food in general in Helen is at Bigg Daddy’s. If you want authentic German cuisine, Bodensee is great...a little pricey though. It’s behind Wendy’s on a side street.

Used to stay in those with mom and dad as a kid. And then make the hike to Anna Ruby Falls.

Good times.

I would 2nd Paul's...pretty cool setting plus I'm really not into
German food.If that's what you want to call it up there.

I can tell none of you are locals. Paul’s is the place for the over 40 affluent redneck crowd that thinks it’s still hip. Food is decent but quite overpriced.

Pints and pies has pretty good pizza, and the best specialty food item in the entire hamlet is a sandwich called the Camel Rider...this can be found at the International Cafe over the river next to the walking bridge. You are welcome in advance...you can thank me later.

Hansel n Gretel fudge shop next to the liquor store has an item called puttin on the ritz that is the perfect confection for after lunch.

Most of the “German” food in Helen is prepackaged bullshite, but Bodensee is run by a real German couple and is the place that any German tourists go to eat to get real German food.

Lunch at International Cafe or Pints and Pies...dinner at Bigg Daddy’s. Try the Pedro Burger or the fish tacos.

Thank God for that judging by the locals I've run into.

I think the same thing can be said for locals everywhere that isnt your own hometown. I am native to Cleveland, but Ive been around a bit. Most of the folks who live in Helen are not native to the area.

Cabins: LINK

Stayed in a few of these, all great.

And then there's this: LINK

We've only stayed here in the Dogwood Suite, but it was very nice. Separate from the other rooms in the house.

I’m guessing it was pretty good since you haven’t put me on blast yet. Gonna head to Bigg Daddy’s in an hour or so for my Saturday cheat meal. If I owe you a beer, let me know.

It was the best meal I've had since we've been here lol.

We went to big daddy's a while ago and the wait was 45 minutes so we just walked over to troll tavern. Bout to finish up in a minute but if you stop in I'll get us some drinks

Right on...I haven’t made it up just yet, but if you are still out and about when I’m done eating I’ll head over.

Well be at the bar another hour or so then head out so I'll probably miss you. But feel free to come drop in before your dinner if you want. Drinks on me
