Stop yapping about the media. This isn’t about them.
Epidemiologists didn’t panic with h1n1 either. They are this time.
Again, H1n1 didn’t collapse health care systems. Read that again.
Our health care system isn’t as rock solid as you seem to believe. We lack beds, icu beds, vents, and have a nursing shortage.

What?
We had 257,000 people hospitalized back in '09 over 10 months but all of a sudden our healthcare "systems" are "overwhelmed" with 1,000+ cases and 28 deaths?
WTF are you taking about?
Talking about China and Italy and probably Iran. That’s foreshadowing for us. Ignore at your own peril.

Update on how UGA is handling it:
quote:
Dear UGA Faculty, Staff and Students:
Please see the update below from the University System of Georgia, which has been sent to Presidents of all of the USG’s 26 institutions. Per the USG’s direction, the University of Georgia will temporarily suspend instruction for two weeks beginning March 16, 2020.
Dear Presidents:
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, all University System of Georgia institutions will temporarily suspend instruction for two weeks to allow time for USG institutions to test their business continuity plans and online instruction modules and for state officials to continue to assess the current situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) in Georgia.
Students who are currently on spring break are strongly encouraged not to return to campus. Students on campus are asked to depart campus by close of business Friday, March 13, 2020, and to remain away from campus until March 29, 2020. At this time, students are not being asked to move out of their dorms for the remainder of the semester. For students who are unable to leave campus, please establish a mechanism to safely accommodate those students on campus.
Please activate your relevant business continuity plans and ensure the operation of online instruction should that become necessary. Further guidance will follow as the situation warrants.

It seems that doctors are still having problems getting test kits. It was reported that a sick member of congress was unable to get tested. The powers that be keep lying about test availability.

Yeah I found this a little confusing

Shits getting real for those of us in the tourist business. Just had 2 charters cancel and I’m sure they’re not that last. My phone has almost stopped ringing the past few days. Same for a few buddies of mine.
shite. I'm not sure if I'm coming down yet or not, but if I do I'll look you up. My uncle and brother are down there right now and we'd talked about trying to take a fishing trip before my uncle leaves for the summer.

I took my 9 year old to the pediatrician today due to an ear ache. She has an ear infection in one ear. The pediatrician and I had a brief discussion about the Covid-19 and she said that they do not have test kits but the ER does. She asked me to spread the word that anyone who has Covid like symptoms call their office and consult with a nurse. The nurse will direct them to go to the ER where the test kits are available.

Have you picked out a new user name yet?
IT_Dawg is one of the most level-headed people that posts here, and has been for many years, whether it is sports or other offtopic subjects. SOmetimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong. But he's not a consistent gimp.
He deserves better than to be called a moron.
Moron should be reserved for people that consistently are wrong. People like yourself.

I was in the room with the team on a conf call about a very large meeting we were having in a few weeks. They are all Alpha business dudes who have all been saying its overblown. We were over ruled by a higher authority. It was not over reacting on our part. Again, we were intervened and over ruled. Either they know something we don’t or there is some sort of plan in place that they are required to carry out with rolling cancellations. I can only assume this is happening elsewhere. Legal said we would have some exposure if people were infected, but we were gonna press on. Rank and file people are not over reacting I would bet.

They don’t want it to be political... but this is all political. The media wants this to crash everything and everyone because they thrive on it. It’s very disturbing tbh.

There's no way to stop it and its already out in the open. Think about the math if 1 person has it and infects 2 people. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 126, 252, 504, 1008, 2016, 4032, 8064, 16128 and on and on. Then think about 70% infection rate and some where around 20% severe cases, according to WHO, that require medical intervention.
It might not be bad for most people but it's the huge numbers that are causing the reactions from leaders.
Also, maybe it isn't all that bad for most, but what if, for you or someone you care about, it is bad, and they get to the hospital and are told, "sorry, we've got no more beds and are out of other supplies as well". They have to at least slow the spread to keep everything manageable.
Taking precautions, both from a government and personal standpoint, is just smart.

Im also on the "advisory board" for this covid 19 response and draft the written portions of it, for a Fortune 10 corporation. I have seen the same thing. It tends to come down to if an employee gets it, then spreads to grandpa who dies, will sue for millions because fortune 10 company didn't shut shite down quick enough. Litigious cancer.

It's up to us as individuals to do all we can to minimize the risk to ourselves and others. The federal government continues to fart around and do nothing but make the situation worse.
If the California governor is to be believed, the CDC is still providing faulty testing kits.
