I've tried to pay attention lately to the lines and the messages they want me to see, but now I've gotta make a point to focus on the horking. I can't believe I havne't really noticed it this directly yet.

The lines were heavy in this one. Opening shot was closeup theme of the lines within a circle carryover from Nacho’s death row sequence. (in form of spokes within the wheel) Full circle theme, etc. Also, the moved cone resulted in Saul parking Howard’s car ON TOP OF the yellow lines. Translation: Sianara Howard. Trust me. And then there’s the crooked window blind shadows in the scene where Saul and Kim are in bed where she squirrel-horks the Vienna sausage nugget.

I’ll organize all this better later when I have time. But it figures in with the lines in the episode 5 window blinds of Sauls strip mall office…that are not just crooked, but broken.

Also, the season 6 trailer we all salivated over was a fraud. But also maybe genius. Why is another character saying “I’m just getting warmed up”? Like Kim does in the episode 5 trailer preview thing.. like Howard did in the season trailer (which turned out to be a throw away meaningless line at therapy)

Lines? What?

I watched Breaking Bad on demand like you are doing because I didn’t know it existed until it was already over. Was a fun ride

Always wondered what it would be like to watch BCS first.

Glad you’re enjoying it, Dallas. Both shows are consistently good throughout.

I think he’ll be shocked at what the Saul character is in BB. There’s only 11 episodes left and Jimmy is not only nothing like the hilarious cut throat Saul from BB, but they’ve actually used the 4 episodes of season 6 so far to make him a sheepish subordinate to his frigid self righteous wife with gross eating ways. Who Mike says is “made of sterner stuff” than him. Gross. (I can’t even believe this show of all shows is getting infected with this kind of stuff but whatever)

Point being, I’m curious how in the hell are they going to believably make this Jimmy/Saul hybrid into full Saul with so little time left…and still dabble in the Gene timeline

Next episode is called “Black and Blue” so I’m hoping Lalo will snatch a knot in Jimmy or Kim’s head, but the title is probably just a fake out and Kim will noisily hork the shite out of a blue and blackberry granola parfait for breakfast while running late for super righteous pro bono meeting with a downtrodden victim of the system.

The “Black and Blue” title is likely a nod to the Breaking Bad episode “Negro y Azul”.

Maybe we’ll get a flash forward opening with Walt and Jesse.

man what a treat to not have seen BB or BCS yet and get to view for the first time. I think it'd probably be a litttttle better to watch BB first, but I don't think it's detracting necessarily to watch BCS first. It'll probably give you a comletely differnet perspective watching BB after finishing this first.

I'm sure you've heard this because at this point it's basically a meme but BB is one of the best shows ever, IMO. It's just unbelievably good with very little filler. And I think you can make a case that each season gets better than the one before it.

please keep us posted on your progress. I'm glad you're enjoying so far. One small complaint SOME (not all, some) people have abotu bcs that have preiouvsly watched BB is that it's a bit slower paced. I think since you are able to binge instead of waiting week to week and year to year this is probably not a factor though. Also not having the comparision point from BB.

more jail lines shown in the diner over kim. Certainly very intentional you'd think. Didn't see any horking but she was yet again at the diner so something was likely horked in the recent past.

Based on what kim was saying when her and jimmy were in bed after the boxing, it sounds like they wanted howard to get wise to them and their BIG plan is still yet to come. Pretty excited to see how that plays out. Also you've gotta imagine now wiht 2 PIs in the fold (mike's guys following kim and Howards following saul) somethings gonan happen there.

That's how clever and brilliant these writers are though. Follow me... In this one, we're suppose to notice how unsettled nervous and fearful Kim is of the Lalo survival, right? We see that sHe's unable to sleep, she's baricading doors with chairs, etc. She's chain smoking before dawn. ANd most importantly she;s not horking mounds of food left and right like usual. You see? She's so damn nervous, she can't even hork!! Which is brilliant. It drives the point home hard too because when she's back behind bars at El Camino's with her old assistant, you know she wanted to scarf down and cheek pack somthing off the breakfast menu. But shes so damn nervous she could only get down a cup of Joe. Was also funny how they showed her sitting on the toilet talking to Saul while he's tending to his "Black and Blue" shiner (from where Mr. Ward snatched a knot in his head, which was awesome). Her squatting on the shitter was clearly a wink-wink nod to the audience telling us to just imagine how frequently she blows this thing up on the reg after all those hork sessions.

Was also cool how while using the absence-of-hork to ramp up nervous tension in that story-line, they inverted it into the parallel story-Line for the same purpose but through a different technique. Keeping it in view while its out of view on the other side....

Because, just like Kim, Gus is aslo tweeked out and nervous in this one. And for the same reason from the same threat vector (line). Gus is usually rock solid focused, but to show what a threat the Lalo situation is, we're shown a few small cracks in the facade like when he gets startled by the dropped pans... But did you also notice what the customer ordered from Gus? He orders a freakin 12 piece extra spicy, and then when Gus suggests an order of spicy curls to go with it, the dude, goes "Hell yeah, make it a large". So the dude is going to eat 12 pieces of extra sp[icy chicken and a pile of spicy curls and a Coke. Does that sound like a normal order to you for one fellow? Or does that sound like a diabetic hork down is about to commence?!?! Don't doubt this. What a customer orders in this situation in a normal show would have zero meaning. He'd order a #2 combo with a SPrite or something bland, then the pans would startle GUs. But this isnt a normal show and things like this mean everything. When something is removed from one side of the line, it reappears on the other side of the line. Just like Kim used to sleep like a baby, while Saul stares at teh ceiling. Now Saul snores away, while Kim stares. Which is a nice way of transitioning into the lines. WHich Im still percolating on, but my gosh. Talk about total confirmation and validation of the lines...

The whole damn teaser opening was an homage to lines. A sliderule that architects/engineers use to calculate their lines and angles parallels and perpediculars curves and diagonals, you name it, being enshired by 3D precision line cuts and etched with laser lines. And then in the end it's found on a shelf in the office of an engineer with line art and line sculptures all over the walls? Crazy. This post is too long. Ill get into what I think it means some other time. But I can't believe theyre really going to take a 6 week break soon for the second half of the season after taking 2 years to put this thing out. Total horse shite

WG, worlds worst at names plots etc... might be thru episode 3 season 2.

Currently where parking lot guy got big pharma drug selling dude with yellow hummer his baseball cards back and took the hummer to quit talking to cops. Jimmy ran a Ken Nugent type commercial without bosses ok, gotta go see him tomorrow. Parking lot guy got a job from vetenerian and it's the messican that's screwing over his boss and robbed the fat pharma guy wanting someone to go away, ton of other shite imma not remembering...

Imma terrible at remembering what/who is doing what.

Hard to imagine that anyone could still be skeptical about the lines at this point, but if there's any deniers left, I beg you to go back and watch that scene in this latest one where Gus and Mike go to the underground meth lab construction site. Watch it a couple of times

This is why even when the slow pace of this whole thing starts to frustrate the hell out of you, you have to remember and respect the fact that they have the gigantic balls it takes to attempt to pull scenes like this off.

So. With most scenes you have natural light, windows, blinds, etc to play with the lines, right? But Gus is underground in the partial dark in this one. So at first, ladders and the scaffolding serves as the lines. Horizontal and diagonal showing the way down. The whole thing a giant physical symbol representing the shadowy underworld that the entire orbit of characters work in. ONce MIke leaves and Gus begins his descent, the power cords and electrical cables become the lines. Hanging vertically from their source above somewhere in the light, leading down to the darkness of the underworld where the evil work will be done. And there's even this effect they do with all the spot lights where they have a horizontal line halo thing. An underground line festival work of art.

Now to all those rolling their eyes your thinking "doopitdy doo, that's just background stuff and Gus is about to hide a gun. I like cheetos". Well, yes, the scene partially exists so that we can see the gun, but something else happens beofre that. Something that is even more deliberate and takes longer than it does for him to hide the gun. SOmething so intentional and excruciatingly obvious, you're only going to believe me when you go back and watch.

The part I'm talking about is when Gus is just standing there in the dark for what seems like forever, then kneels down so slowly and methodically and picks up a line from the ground. Yes!! He actually physically touches the ever-present trajectory line in this one! He raises it like he's lifting nitroglycerin, pauses with it in outstretched arms like he's making an offering, then checks it's connection to the other line, then slowly and deliberately places it back horizontally on the ground and stretches it out straight and perfect. In one hell of a deliberate and long scene which most people are picking their nose through and thinking about cheetos.

Wow. SO beautiful. He physically touched the trajectory line connecting Lalo's mission in Germany to discover the lab to the actual lab where he stands....and to where the collision between these two characters will most likely end (based on the deliberate hiding of the gun there). Gus knows instinctively that Lalo is on to the lab and that he will most likely stand in that very spot one day. And of course the very next scene answers the question of where had Lalo been and what has be been doing. Which exactly according to Gus's intuition is he's out there tracking down the builders of the lab at the other end of the trajectory line

Anyway, the whole thing is very similiar to the yellow highway lines that were used for Mike and Gus's trajectory line collision. When we see them meet for the very first time standing 20 feet apart from one another both standing on the yellow line. I bet not one single person read this far. Oh well. I tried.

I read, I enjoy your commentary. I'm a dullard when it comes to picking up on deep level stuff so I completely missed this during live watch but went back and watched after I saw someone mention it. In that scene you're referencing Gus's gait is out of the ordinary. When he's walking from that power cord over to the tire to plant the gun, he's counting his paces. Presumably, perhaps, to do at some point in the future in total darkness. It seems like we're on a collision course with a gus/lalo confrontation in the lab
