I drove down Williams St on Saturday for the first time in a long time. Rivermill apartments are gone. Mud pit full of construction equipment.

Many memories there. Excellent affordable campus-adjacent downtown-adjacent place to live for students. Gone.

I priced it out about 2 years ago.

The rent was cheap as hell.
The tenant complaints (roaches and mold) sounded off as to why.

I moved in with my brother as a freshman. He was on the 6 year plan.

I dont know how we got our deposit back.

I remember when people would move out, instead of lugging furniture down the stairs, they'd just throw it off the balcony by the river. There was a graveyard of unwanted furniture along the North Oconee River.

Damn...lived there for two years, ground floor unit as close to campus as possible. Definitely a good time in my life.

I'd imagine that they were probably getting to the point where it would cost too much to refurbish the units, though.

Did you ever steal a pitcher of beer from Bling Pig on Sundays?

Do you mean walking behind the bar to fill it up?

I mean that Georgia law said you couldn't buy beer on Sundays, so you get a pitcher of beer at Blind Pig and take it back to your apartment.

So you could have beer, watch TV, smoke a bowl, maybe with coke sprinkled in, get a BJ from a pre-greenway Dudley Park whore, things of that nature.

First place I lived in Athens when I got there in 1992. Last building right beside the pool 1st floor. Learned to roll my1st kayak in that pool. Two hot girls in the unit above us. Many a drunken late night walks back from downtown. Lulus Bait Shack to Peppinos at 1:00am for late beer and crusty slices.

What about Baldwin Square right next to the BP? I lived there for s couple years and figured it would eventually be torn down.

I THINK it was still there last fall but not entirely sure. I know they tore down bulldog square gas station next to it a couple years back. Those small brick little condos that were next to the blind pig got torn down 2-3 years ago.

I lived in RM from summer 2005 - summer 2008. Absolute best years of my life. We were in the top building closest to tracks, practically in the center. If you came from campus and walked across the railroad tracks and through the fence into the RM parking lot we were the first breezeway straight in front of you. 2 of the 6 rooms on our floor were all buddies from HS but we ended up being friends with the other units too. Nonstop partying. My Lord at the things that went on in those apartments..

No, but a nice collection of heavy shotglasses may or may not have ended up in my possession over the years.

Definitely lived there at the same time, then. Who knows - we might have crossed paths at some point. My roommate and I used to play volleyball in the pool sometimes.
