It was one of the things that always made the Braves different. It was one of the main reasons Rome and Gwinnett built them stadiums. It was 100% why Rome voted a sales tax to build a stadium. Would NOT have passed for any private company.

I get why MLB did what they did with so many minor league teams struggling financially and a greater use of foreign countries as the minor leagues but…still sad to see that part of the Braves change.

Why is it that the braves got two minor league teams so close to their own home stadium and the ability to play under the "braves" trademark? Seems like every other mlb club has farm teams scattered in weird parts of the country with names like Rocket City Trash Pandas.

Was part of this decision shift back in the late 1990s when they first moved to Rome and had a long term plan of leaving Richmond.

It was essentially based on the regionalizing of fan bases as those markets grow..ATL/GA in 2000 vs 1980.

In essence it grew regional support for the team versus compete bc the market was strong enough and it actually was shown to feed the major league team. Similar decision in moving to Cobb to be closer to actual fan base:

They held onto them that long simply bc a business model was formed by Ted that worked. Those communities wanted to be part of the Braves.

Can assure you that Gwinnett nor Rome get built had it not been “The Braves”.

I haven't followed baseball in a while, but when I did I noticed that many teams kept their AA and AAA teams semi close to their Major League teams, so if they needed a quick call up the player could hop in his car and make it to the team in a matter of a few hours and play the same night.

That was years ago, and like I said I haven't followed baseball in a long time....so by these posts I am guessing things have changed a good bit?

The Rocket City Trash Pandas are not owned by the Angels. Ballcorps LLC bought the Mobile Bay Black Bears and moved them to Madison, Al. They became an affiliate of the Angels. The Angels supply the players and pay the Trash Pandas to develop them. That's how many minor league teams operate.

I lived in Richmond in the 70's and 80's as a kid. Everyone up there was a Braves fan. It's changed mostly to Nats fans now. After that we moved to Greenville and had the AA Greenville Braves. I wish Greenville had kept the Braves but they had some stadium issues. I'm not sure if it has changed but the Gwinnet Braves had very poor attendance.
