Good hire for them. Will be painful for the next couple of years but if they are patient they'll come out the other side with a team that might actually be fun to watch on offense again. Glad we wont have to game plan for the TO anymore or see the offense every year.

Collins was the dork that had his staff LARP as Star Wars characters during games at Temple.

You can't make this shite up.

The Nerds at Tech have definitely found their man

You and I may not get along, but every once and a while... you deliver. Quality find.

Tech AD: We'd like to get our student body more involved in the football program. A lot of our students are, umm, how should I put this....they're a little awkward and aren't very socially skilled. How would you approach this obstacle, Mr. Collins?

Collins: Dude, my staff LARPs as science fiction characters during games. I got this.

Tech AD: You're hired!

LMAO. One thing that I know about this guy is that he's going to do some goofy shite, but it apparently works.

I don't care if we struggle for a couple of years. Like a couple of others have mentioned, they need a serious cultural change in order to get some money flowing through the program.

I know that you guys loved you some Chan Gailey and for good reason. He was God awful. But even in the Gailey years, we were drawing 50k for most games with the occasional uptick to a full 55k. We might have dropped to 45k when playing a Samford or something like that.

We just drew 37k against Virginia in our last home game of the year after having a nice little string of wins. And this was before Kirby anally penetrated Paul Johnson to close out the year. That shite had to change and this might be the guy that can get us moving back in the other direction. If not, then I'll probably just give up and become a full time soccer fan.

Is it though? He took a Temple team that won 10 games (with losses in both bowl games) the 2 years prior and went 15-10.

Will have to wait and see how he impacts recruiting, but presuming he doesn't really impact our recruiting too much, rather who gets what "leftovers" in the state there are, I'm fine with it. He modernizes their roster, they aren't seen as a complete joke on our schedule anymore, and in 4-5 seasons if he's not doing much they replace him and are unlikely to shift back to the Triple Option...

So what was your realistic hope then? They could have stayed option and tried Navy or Army coach... That would have meant more bullshite though.

Whisenhunt probably more attractive coach than Collins. Likely wouldn't have been great given no recruiting experience this century though. No other significant names were out there.

I would have been happy with them hiring a partially trained monkey, but this is hardly a scary hire in any way.

One of the best things about the state of our program is that Tech was and is incapable of a “scary hire”.

This is true... But a Hugh Freeze or Lane Kiffin hire might have some kind of impact (even if minimal) on recruiting. I don't see Collins as even impacting that with any significance.

Geoff Collins looks like Butch Jones’ fat, balding cousin.
