ATHENS — Georgia coach Kirby Smart revealed on Wednesday that quarterback JT Daniels has a different injury than he has been dealing with as the Top 10 showdown with Arkansas approaches.

Daniels missed the Week Two game with UAB on account of a strained oblique muscle and Smart has rotated backup Stetson Bennett into the first half of the past two contests.

“His oblique is fine; he’s been having a little bit of a lat issue,” Smart said on the SEC teleconference. “It bothered him some last week, and it bothered him some this week.”

Washington might play
Tyree might play
Daniels has an injury and might play

Sounds like gamesmanship

So is this Kirby trying to throw off Arkansas or is this no big deal?

Doesn’t sound like a big deal:

“His oblique is fine; he’s been having a little bit of a lat issue,” Smart said on the SEC teleconference. “It bothered him some last week, and it bothered him some this week.”

Daniels has likely continued to be at least somewhat limited at practice as he looks to be at full strength by Saturday.

“It’s getting better every day,” Daniels said. “It’s something that’s been hurt since fall camp and it never really goes away. You play Clemson, there was a little dip, so we focused on rehabbing more that week.

“Last week we rehabbed as much as we could, (and) It’s just gonna keep getting better and better,” Daniels said. “The more you are throwing it, the worst you will get if you’re not combating that with rehab, which we are doing a great job with right now.” LINK

Let's hope so.
That's also probably why Stet has been playing so much. Not only to rest JT but also to have him ready to go if needed.

Be on the lookout for my world record attempt at the longest closed mouth, air through the nose sigh.

Will be attempting it once/if I see Stetson trotting onto the field to takeover for JT*

I hate to be the bearer of this bad news but I will be. Stet is probably gonna come back next year.

Is this not his 4th year playing? The extra year thing last year was to allow players who hadn’t played 4 years to basically have a 6th year.

“In 2022, Kirby will have a wide-open quarterback competition between a lot of talented young signal-callers”

The way I understand it the COVID year is basically a free extra year for anyone that wants to claim it. Heard some in the know podcasters saying it is definitely a possibility he returns and that could also explain his seemingly unexplainable plethora of reps.

That’s how I’ve heard it works, too.

Guess it makes sense for Stetson to keep stacking degrees and masters while he’s given the opportunity.

He needs to strike while his name is still popping and get his future Insurance business launched. Although, he could frick around and play his way into a Ford dealership if Kirby keeps giving him chances.

His unexplainable reps are very explainable. He gets the garbage time and there's been a loooottt of garbage time so far in the schedule.

I understand that, but to me there’s a difference between keeping your best back up option (Stet) sharp and ignoring the future….unless Stet is potentially part of the future. If he was a senior and there was no COVID year etc, I think he’d get less than he currently is just because it serves no purpose

I agree with that too, but Beck has looked pretty shitty in most of his reps. I get argument that he needs more, and if not him, then bvg. But none of that should be a hit on Stet. He's clearly the qb2.

Reading this post I realized Stetson could be back next year. For some reason I thought he was on the roster in 2016 but he was a freshman in 2017. 2018 he transferred to JUCO. He came back in 2019 as redshirt sophomore; and 2020 didn't count. I just hate to see Brock and Beck transfer because Bennett comes back next year.
