Prior to the Clemson game it was sort of presented that UGA defaulted to Salyer at LT because our younger Potential tackles weren’t quite ready yet. Listening to Brandon Adams on Dawgnation, he highlighted how well Salyer did against Myles Murphy, one of the top players in college football. It’s exciting to think how good our line could be once Jones and Mims can grow into bookend tackles. Add to that once we get some of the injured/recovering players back on the field, it’s exciting to think how good our offense can be.

I’m curious to hear opinions from those that understand the finer points of line play of how he did vs Murphy.

I have been waiting for a brooks austin study on salyer. I dont think he has done it yet.

I havent rewatched salyer from saturday, but i may have to eat some words. He struggled some in the biggest games 2020 at tackle (mostly speed rush by future nflers). I expected more struggles against clemson, and he vastly exceeded my expectations.

SoFla put out a depth chart today with Jones starting at LT. I guess we'll find out if he's ready.

Biggest challenge for Jones is going to be run blocking. Think he'll be shutdown on pass protection.

Yup, that's what's kept him from taking over earlier.

run blocking

He’s up to 315 lbs. now right? Run blocking shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

Run blocking is far more complicated than just weighing more than the guy across from you. Offensive linemen have to be the most technically sound guys on the field if they're going to be successful.

This could be good news for pass protection.

If his feet can't put his body where it needs to be then he can't be an elite blocker. Footwork is crucial for any OL to succeed.

Pretty sure you nailed it. I mean, Daniels was sacked once all game against a DLine that many said was the best in the nation, so, as a whole I think our OLine did well. Had we decided to ram the ball down their throats I think we could have done that and pulled away from Clemson. But, our staff is set on the big change in our offense, so they stuck to the pass heavy (for us) offense.

Not saying they should or shouldn't have. Just saying that's what it looks like to me.

Perfect time for him. We have a couple of weeks that he can get his feet wet and get settled in.

Nothing new that I am aware of. He's a freshman, so he is learning, getting stronger and growing would be my guess.
