After the way we played in the Sugar Bowl, it seems we didn't deserve that slot either.
There are some mitigating factors in the Sugar Bowl debacle - the coaching staff was changing, players were out for various reasons (including voluntarily), etc. It doesn't excuse the loss, but it does help explain it.

Notre Dame losing 30-3 proved they didn’t belong in that playoff game.
Georgia losing by 20 in Baton Rouge and then again in Atlanta proved we didn't belong either. UGA knows the formula to get into the playoff: Go 11-1 or better and win the SEC. Hell, even going 12-0 with a close loss in Atlanta could get us into the dance some years.
Sure, ND has it "easier" because they don't have to play for a conference championship, but they also have to go 12-0 just to have a shot at the playoff. I'd much rather be UGA and have a one loss cushion. We can redeem that loss with a win in the SECCG.
ND can do no such thing. They require perfection in the regular season in order to make it. And going perfect in a regular season is no easy task, as we all know quite well.

a major reason for it was their lame arse schedule.

It wasn’t a surprise that ND got blasted by Clemson. They struggled to beat more than a handful of average teams. Yes, they won 12 and that gave them a “most deserving” but that 12-0 didn’t make them a better team than 11-2 GA. Bc they weren’t. I’d go so far as to say TOSU would have beaten ND soundly too.
The Irish continue to get special consideration based on their brand & name recognition. Consider this. In their BCS/NY6/playoff appearances, they are 0-6. And they aren’t losing by a field goal. They’re getting crushed. Does 0-6 support the idea ND belongs in these games? No. It doesn’t. It supports the exact opposite.
Join a conference Notre Dame.
And the hot take that GA proved they didn’t belong in the playoff bc of Texas is bullshite. Smart has our guys focused on winning a national championship & if we don’t make the playoff, season’s over. Sugar Bowl’s nothing but an opportunity for players to get injured.
Did the Sugar hurt our recruiting. No. Playing in it was a letdown. We failed at our goal. It’s why Baker sat out. Why risk injury on a game vs a 4 loss team that’s nothing but a consolation?
Imagine for a moment that we won that game but Fromm or Swift or any starter got a knee injury that kept them out of 2019. Would that post season game have been worth it? No. Bc the game was fruitless to a team whose goal is a national title.
This game Saturday is payback. GA was better than ND last year & instead we got another boring post-season game where ND got murdered & left everyone saying they didn’t belong. And sparked the 8 team playoff discussion in earnest.
Well, that’s not happening this year. We are the best team on their schedule & ND is going home with an L & no playoff hopes.

Makes it easier.
Think about the prep that went into Bama playing GA, then Oklahoma. Then think of the prep Clemson had playing 7-5 Pitt, then a 12-0 ND team who struggled to beat more than a handful of average teams including Vanderbilt, Ball St, and Pitt.
Who would you rather face on the way to the championship? GA/Oklahoma or Pitt/ND?

I also believe that UGA was a better team than ND last year, but if we want to make it to the playoff we need to not lose by 20 @LSU and then lose again in Atlanta.
ND had nothing to do with us not getting into the playoff. They did what they had to do and went 12-0 to secure a spot. If UGA had taken care of business, they wouldn't have mattered at all.
We still need to enter this game with a "break our dicks off in them" mentality, but because it's the next game on our schedule, not because of some "payback" we owe them for doing what they had to do to get in, while we kept stepping on our own dicks last season.

Yeah, arguing that ND had anything to do with our missing the CFP last year is straight retarded. They were the beneficiaries of our coming out flat against LSU and not being able to close out against Bama, despite having a considerable lead, (AGAIN).
Laying an egg against Texas after taking smack about missing the CFP just made our guys look like petulent brats.

Oklahoma
Same as Clemson.
Then they both had two weeks to prepare for each other. Dabo and crew were prepared. Saban and crew were not. The ACC had no bearing on the playoffs once the playoff teams got there.

ND did not have to go thru a championship game. If they want to get in the playoffs they need to get in a conference and play for a championship like all us in the SEC have to do
