I remember 1980 well… don’t remember hearing any of those things. I do remember us being thrilled to go from 3 yards and a cloud of dust to 7 yds and a cloud of dust with Herschel . UGA fans had no idea we actually could throw the ball until Eric Zier.

Went to 9 games that year and all home games. While you would occasionally hear complaints about
Dooly's conservative approach I never heard folks get down on Buck
or call for Paulk to come in.

I did hear folks wanting Pyburn benched and Buck to start the year before

Buck did come in for Jeff Pyburn a few times in 79. Buck was well liked as you know already. I went to my first UGA UF game in 76 when Goff was QB and didn’t miss one for many years after that. I was 10 yrs old in 76 and remember the bathroom in the Gator Bowl had a piss trough. The floor was like an inch deep in urine and some guy was so drunk he was passed out in it. My father and his best friend tried to help him up but he started puking so they drop him back in it. That was the good old days haha.

You made all of that up but regardless, it didn't work in '81 and '82. Let alone what happened when he tried to keep the same philosophy into the mid-80's...

The conservative, keep going with what has been working usually goes well until you finally hit a wall someplace.

Buck Belue actually had almost 1200 yards passing in 1980, but only about a 50% completion rate. He only passed when needed. That was Dooley's philosophy.

Believe it or not most of the perennial powerhouses ran the wishbone, veer or some variant. Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, even Ga Tech had one hell of a triple option attack. UGA kinda perfected the power I formation. When Herschel was there they ran it with a fullback. Womack is one that comes to mind that sprung Herschel many time for long, explosive runs.
