Is it an analytics problem?

We come into games looking like we watched tape on the wrong offense every week and then adjust and smother teams in the second half. I don’t know.

Kirby likes to make it interesting and frick with us so he can go back and read the meltdowns later and giggle. Evil bastard.

I’m not sure what the issue is, but it is VERY real.

The 2021 team would let teams go down and score on the first drive a lot, so part of it, I’m sure, is us playing vanilla in script to feel the other team out, not really worrying about getting down 7.

But getting run through for whole halfs can simply not be a planned thing. It seems like this team just struggles to adapt quickly. They adapt eventually, but it takes WAY too long.

Like tonight. Stopping that jet sweep is a simple alignment and gap integrity issue. They busted us twice on the first drive on it. Ok, come to the sidelines, “hey guys, here’s what they’re doing, let’s try to be more sound on this”, and then Auburn comes right back out and gashes us multiple more times on the same concept.

It’s really baffling for a program that’s supposed to have elite standards, especially defensively.

We got in too big of a hole to climb out of in Oxford last year, and successfully got out only to fall back in Tuscaloosa.

Bottom line is almost every P5 game since GT last year has felt too close for comfort

Very few people, if any, give a shite what you think about analytics right now.

Quit trying to be a buzzkill

Analytics doesn't cause players to miss tackles or be 2 steps behind a WR on a deep route. That's in the players head.

That’s a good question.

My guess is we’re coming in with a base scheme and teams we play are scripting their opening drives to beat it. We don’t make significant adjustments until we figure out what they’re doing. I’d love to see us dial up an aggressive defense from the beginning and then adjust from that.

One factor might be that we play a lot of players on both sides of the ball.
And they aren't all equal in talent.
This makes us vulnerable to scripted offenses in the first half until we make adjustments.
But in spite of Auburn dominating the time of possession in the first half, obviously our defense was still fresh enough to adjust and shut down their offense in the 2nd half.
Same on offense. Auburn was fired up and dominated the LOS on both sides of the ball. But they do not have our depth on defense and I think fatigue set in in the 2nd half.
Translation: Georgia has more quality depth than Auburn which is definitely in our favor in the 2nd half against opponents who don't have our level of quality depth.
