No one knows how qbr is calculated. It’s not hard to account for rushing yards. It’s easy to see a qb turn a sack into a first down.

Ah. The eye test. It's not hard to see a QB turn a 3rd and 8 into a 3 yard scramble, either.

QBR is available. And it credits 1st down runs. But don't look it up. It probably wouldnt help your argument anyway since the backup to Fromm is Bennett.

Yes, the eye test. Remember when tua escaped a sure sack by roquan in the national title game? Hurts escaped a sure sack in the seccg? Burrow escaped at least 2 sure sacks this month. Those were huge plays that helped elevated their teams, and we paid the price for them. Fromm doesn’t make those kind of plays as he isn’t as dynamic as those guys.

He has. I dont remember but maybe 4 scrambles for big plays this season. I'd prefer he didnt scramble to run, but he had more success this season than the previous 2.

Yep, these are good examples of the kind of dynamics I am talking about. Giving Fields the starting position at the beginning of this season would have been a huge risk and we will never know how it would have panned out given our other offensive woes. But Fromm is a known limited quantity and any objective observer knew that Fromm would not provide the dynamics needed to win a NC. Other NC teams, Alabama and Clemson, rolled the dice and won big with their risk. No doubt we had other issues other than QB, so I am in no way saying we would have/could have won a NC with Fields leading our team this season. All I'm saying is we would have had more potential with Fields now and in the future.

That would have been stupid. But so was limiting Field’s quality snaps as much as they were limited. Would it have appeased Fields? I guess we’ll never know but we should have at least been more conscience of the gem we had on the sideline and made a better effort.

He got plenty of snaps in big games. He got first half snaps against Bama in the SECCG. He got redzone snaps early in other games. He was one of our leading rushers for TDs.

We can complain about playcalls. He had a ton of read options. And I dont know what pass plays he was given, but they didnt seem effective as he didnt throw often on those.

He rarely makes such plays, and you know it.

His rushing yardage in 4 games vs LSU and bama is -40 yards and zero tds on 22 rushes.

It wasn't about appeasing Fields; it was about more potential/upside due to Fields' superior talent. Fields is bigger, much faster and has a stronger arm than Fromm. Fields proved that he could be a very effective QB in Ohio State's system. He could have been an effective QB in our system with proper development.

He did not get quality normal snaps in games outside of the weak sister games and a late season game vs auburn.

I said that I prefer him to scramble to throw. We are in agreement that he isnt a dual threat QB. But he does have more quality scrambles this season than the previous seasons.

The SECCG doesnt count? He took snaps in the first half.

Justin Fields averaged 2.0 pass attempts per game vs P5 opponents.

ETA: That’s not quality snaps in my book, but if you disagree, and you will, that’s your prerogative I guess.

If they are first half snaps, then they are quality.

2nd half snaps with a game on the line... quality.
FWIW, he had more pass attempts than Tebow his freshman season.
He had more snaps than DJ Shockley as a freshman as well.

They only reason to say a first half snap isnt quality is if you think Fields mailed it in. Then what does that say for more PT for Fields in meaningful moments?

Has there been any decision on Luke’s role during this game?

So you prefer he not be dynamic.

He isn’t good at throwing off a scramble, and Fromm has -46 yards rushing in 109 rushes in his most recent 33 games. That’s the opposite of dynamic, which is what you prefer.

No. Getting inserted for a single play to be a wild cat does not count.

He had success earlier this season with it.

Honestly, most scrambles wind up throwaways (USCe being one that wasnt).

He rarely scrambles to throw. I'd like to see more of it, honestly.
